Bredgränd ( sv, Wide Alley) is an alley in Gamla stan, the old town of Stockholm, Sweden. Stretching from Skeppsbron to Österlånggatan, it forms a parallel street to Skeppar Karls Gränd and Kråkgränd. Names Bredgränd appears in historical records as ''östan mur i bredha grandena'' ("east of the wall in the broad alley") in 1476 and as ''Östre Bredgränden'' ("East Broad-Alley") in 1570. The alley was called ''Tunnbindargränden'' from 1612 (''Tunnbindargränd'', "The Barrel Binding Alley") until 1711 when street names were regulated and it was named ''Bredgränd''. It was given the name ''Bredgränd'' because it actually is wider than neighbouring alleys closest to the waterfront while the vault in the western end makes the name slightly hilarious. Österlånggatan
Österlånggatan () is a street in Gamla stan, the old town of Stockholm, Sweden. Stretching southward from Slottsbacken to Järntorget, it forms a parallel street to Baggensgatan and Skeppsbron. Major sights include the statue of Saint George and the Dragon on Köpmanbrinken and the restaurant Den Gyldene Freden on number 51, established in 1722 and mentioned in Guinness Book of Records as one of the oldest with an unaltered interior. Skräddargränd (Swedish: "Tailor's Alley") is an alley in Gamla stan, the old town in central Stockholm, Sweden. Stretching from Västerlånggatan to Stora Nygatan, it forms a parallel street to Bedoirsgränd and Tyska Brinken. History The alley was named after the tailor's guild which occupied number 2 between 1627–1842. Part of the building then served as the ''Förgylta Drufvan'' ("Gilded Grape") tavern sanctioned by King Gustavus Adolphus. Funckens Gränd
Funckens Gränd is an alley in Gamla stan, the old town in central Stockholm, Sweden. Leading south from the street Västerlånggatan to the square Kornhamnstorg, it forms a parallel street to Torgdragargränd and Triewaldsgränd. Origin of the name The street appears in historical records in 1666 as ''Funckens grendh'', named after the burgher Tomas Funck (1580–1645) who moved to Stockholm from Stralsund. The Funck family owned several properties in the alley, except for the so-called Funck House (''Funckska huset'') on 53, Kornhamnstorg, also one on the opposite side of the alley. As the daughter-in-law of Tomas Funck, Elisabet Hansdotter, bought other neighbouring properties in 1680 and 1698, most of the alley belonged to the family, and as the alley's earlier name ''Bredgränd'' (17th century) was used for other streets, the family therefore gave its name to the alley. Kråkgränd
Kråkgränd (Swedish: "Crow Alley") is an alley in Gamla stan, the old town of Stockholm, Sweden. Stretching between Skeppsbron and Österlånggatan, it forms a parallel street to Bredgränd and Nygränd. The alley is named after Knut Nilsson Kråka, who in 1608 was promoted to become one of the 48 Elders of the city and in 1615 became a magistrate. He failed to deliver taxes required however and was subsequently relieved of his duties in 1623 and died as a custom officer by the southern gate in 1625. Skeppar Karls Gränd ( Swedish: "Skipper Karl's Alley") is an alley in Gamla stan, the old town of Stockholm, Sweden.
