Bradley's Beat
''Bradley's Beat'' is an EP by Richard D. James, under the alias Bradley Strider, released by Rephlex Records in 1995. The record has a 1991 copyright date, but there is no reference to it on any Rephlex promotional copy until its 1995 press release. The Rephlex label often put out misinformation about their release catalogue, which may explain this. Three pressings of the single are known to exist. Although all three have the same A-side track, the B-sides vary on the first two pressings and the third pressing has a grooveless B-side. Reception In 2014, Andy Beta of Pitchfork listed ''Bradley's Beat'' as one of James's "10 Essential Releases", referring to its mix of dance techno and world music. 1995 pressings On the below pressing, side A plays at 45 rpm and side B plays at 33 ⅓ rpm. Richard David James (born 18 August 1971), known professionally as Aphex Twin, is a British musician, composer and DJ active in electronic music since 1988. Techno
Techno is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) which is generally produced for use in a continuous DJ set, with tempos being in the range from 120 to 150 beats per minute (bpm). Acid techno, sometimes known generally as "acid", is a genre of techno that was derived from acid house and developed in Europe in the late 1980s to early 1990s. It saw younger artists apply the "squelching" synthesizer sound of Chicago acid house to harder-edged techno material. Rephlex Records was a record label launched in 1991 in Cornwall by Electronic music, electronic musician Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge. The label coined the term ''braindance'' to describe the output of Aphex Twin and fellow artists. History In 1989, Grant Wilson-Claridge met Richard D. James (a.k.a. Aphex Twin) DJing at The Bowgie, a club located just along the coast from Newquay, Cornwall. According to Wilson-Claridge, back in 1989, "the Bowgie was the best club ever...this was before Newquay turned into the Cornish Ibiza" and it was very difficult to hear new and interesting music. Wilson-Claridge and James used to DJ on alternate weeks. When he noticed that James was playing his own tapes rather than records, Wilson-Claridge suggested that they press up some records. ''Donkey Rhubarb'' is a 1995 extended play record by the electronic music artist Aphex Twin. It was released on 14 August 1995 by Warp. The EP contains a version of the song " Icct Hedral" from James' album '' ...I Care Because You Do'' by Philip Glass. Release ''Donkey Rhubarb'' was released on 14 August 1995 by Warp on 12" vinyl and compact disc. ''Donkey Rhubarb'' charted for one week in the United Kingdom at number 78 on the UK Singles Chart. A music video for "Donkey Rhubarb" directed by David Slade was made in 1995. The video was released on DVD by Warp in September 2009. ''Hangable Auto Bulb'' is a series of two 1995 EPs by electronic musician Richard D. James, under his alias AFX. The two were re-released by Warp Records as a single album on 31 October 2005. They marked James's first foray into rapid drill 'n' bass style beat programming. Overview Split across two 12" EPs, the second released eight weeks after the first, and each were limited to 1000 pressings. The records marked a significant change in sound from previous AFX and Aphex Twin releases. Moving away from the analogue sounds of '' ...I Care Because You Do'' (1995), the tracks show James experimenting with computer-arranged breakbeat programming and timestretched samples inspired by drum and bass; this style would become known as "drill 'n' bass, and would become the dominant sound in his work up until the '' Analord'' releases of 2005.
