Brad Fast
Bradley M. Fast (born February 21, 1980) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He spent his amateur career in the British Columbia Hockey League, and was selected in the third round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, 84th overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes. He played in one NHL game for the Hurricanes, scoring a goal, before embarking on a European career. Playing career Amateur Fast played for his hometown Fort St. John Flyers as a 14-year-old before moving on to the Prince George Spruce Kings in the BCJHL. At the end of his third season in the BCJHL, Fast was drafted by the Hurricanes. After being drafted, Fast enrolled at Michigan State University, where he spent four seasons playing for the Michigan State Spartans. He was the captain for one season and was a collegiate standout at MSU, and was recognized as a star offensive defenceman. Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes (colloquially known as the Canes) are a professional ice hockey team based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Hurricanes compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at the Lenovo Center. The franchise was formed in 1971 as the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association (WHA). The Whalers saw success immediately, winning the Eastern Division in the WHA's first three seasons and becoming the inaugural Avco World Trophy Champions to cap off the 1972–73 WHA Season, 1972–73 season. The Whalers again competed for the World Trophy in 1977–78 WHA season, 1978, this time falling short to the Winnipeg Jets (1972–1996), Winnipeg Jets in a rematch of the 1973 Finals. The 2002–03 NHL season was the 86th regular season of the National Hockey League. The Stanley Cup winners were the New Jersey Devils, who won the best of seven series 4–3 against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. League business Entry draft The 2002 NHL entry draft was held on June 22 and 23, 2002 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Rick Nash was selected first overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Rule changes The league approved the following rule changes: * Following the death of Brittanie Cecil during the previous season, netting at both ends of the rink became mandatory, and the minimum height of the glass around the entire rink was raised to five feet. * "Hurry-up" faceoff and line-change rules were implemented, similar to ones used by the American Hockey League.
