Boy Abunda
Eugenio "Boy" Romerica Abunda Jr. (; born October 29, 1961) is a Filipino television presenter, publicist, and talent manager. Known as the "King of Talk", Abunda has presented several talk shows centered on the Philippine entertainment industry. On GMA, he co-presented ''Show & Tell'' (1994–1995) and ''Startalk'' (1995–1999). After transferring to ABS-CBN, he hosted ''The Buzz'' (1999–2015), '' Kontrobersyal'' (2003–2006), ''Homeboy'' (2005–2007), '' The Bottomline with Boy Abunda'' (2009–2020), and '' Tonight with Boy Abunda'' (2015–2020). He partnered with Kris Aquino in hosting '' Boy & Kris'' (2007–2009), '' SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon'' (2009–2011), and '' Aquino & Abunda Tonight'' (2014–2015). After the ABS-CBN shutdown, he returned to GMA to host '' Fast Talk with Boy Abunda'' (2023–present). Borongan
Borongan, officially the City of Borongan (Waray-waray language, Waray: ''Siyudad han Borongan''; ), is a Cities of the Philippines#Legal classification, component city and capital of the Provinces of the Philippines, province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 71,961 people. It is the most populous LGU in Eastern Samar and it is also nicknamed as the "City of the Golden Sunrise/Sunshine" and aspiring to be the "King City of the East". ABS-CBN Franchise Renewal Controversy
The shutdown of ABS-CBN broadcasting arose from the lack of renewal of Philippine media network ABS-CBN's congressional broadcast franchise. The disputes between the administrations of Presidents Benigno Aquino III and Rodrigo Duterte and the media conglomerate arose over the terms and conditions of the franchise renewal agreement. Amid the controversy, the Congress of the Philippines, the country's legislature, was unable to renew the franchise before its expiration date. The congressional franchise expired on May 4, 2020, while the Philippines was dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon. ''The Bottomline with Boy Abunda'' was a Philippine current affairs- talk-reality show, hosted by Boy Abunda, which premiered on November 28, 2009, and aired every Saturday night on ABS-CBN. The show was taken off the air on May 2, 2020 after a total of 522 episodes. On May 2, 2020, the show was suspended from airing due to the temporary closure of ABS-CBN because of the cease and desist order of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), following the expiration of the network's 25-year franchise granted in 1995.
