Bourse (Gothenburg)
The Bourse () is a municipal building in Gothenburg, western Sweden. It is located on the north side of Gustaf Adolf Square. Originally it was designed as a mercantile exchange, with a ballroom, by architect Pehr Johan Ekman in the Neoclassical style. It opened on 1 December 1849. The Gothenburg Municipal Council and its predecessor have conducted their meetings here since 5 January 1863. The Swedish term for this building, ''Börsen'' (derived from the French "La bourse"), is frequently mis-translated into English as "The Stock Exchange". However, the building was never primarily a stock exchange, but rather a commercial exchange or mercantile exchange (see Exchange (organized market)), in the same spirit as a modern commodities exchange. It was published in 1832 by Mame-Delaunay as one of the ''Scènes de la vie privée'' (''Scenes of Private Life'') in '' La Comédie humaine''. Bourse () is a station on Paris Métro Line 3, located in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris. Location The station is located under the axis of the Rue Quatre-Septembre and Réaumur, right next to Place de la Bourse. Oriented approximately along an east–west axis, it is located between Quatre-Septembre and Sentier stations. History It opened on 19 October 1904 as part of the first section of the line opened between Père Lachaise and Villiers. Bartol, a grain and commodities exporter, who modeled it after the Exchange (organized market), Bourse in Hamburg, Germany. The steel-framed building – one of the first to be constructed – was built from 1893 to 1895, and was designed by G. W. & W. D. Hewitt in the Beaux-Arts architecture, Beaux-Arts style. Carlisle redstone, Pompeian brick, Pompeian buff brick and terra cotta were all used in the facade. The building was sold in 1979 to Kaiserman Company and underwent extensive renovations, bringing the internal usable surface to approximately 286,000 square feet (26,000 square meters).
