Bouches-du-Rhône ( ; , ; ; "the Mouths of the Rhône") is a Departments of France, department in southern France. It borders Vaucluse to the north, Gard to the west and Var (department), Var to the east. The Mediterranean Sea lies to the south. Martine Vassal
Martine Vassal (; née Gilles, 29 March 1962) is a French politician who has presided over the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis since 2018. A member of The Republicans (LR), she succeeded Jean-Claude Gaudin in office, who resigned to focus on his term as Mayor of Marseille. Vassal previously served as Deputy Mayor of Marseille under Gaudin from 2001 to 2015, when she was elected to the presidency of the Departmental Council of Bouches-du-Rhône, a position she still holds. She has represented the canton of Marseille-10 in the departmental council since redistricting in 2015, previously holding the canton of Marseille – Saint-Giniez seat from 2002, when she won the by-election to replace Dominique Tian, who had resigned following his election to the National Assembly. Les Baux-de-Provence
Les Baux-de-Provence (; "Les Baux of Provence"; Provençal: ''Lei Bauç de Provença'' or ''Li Baus de Prouvènço'' ), commonly referred to simply as Les Baux, is a rural commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southern France. It is located in the Alpilles mountains, northeast of Arles, atop a rocky outcrop that is crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south. Its name refers to its site: in Provençal, ''bauç'' is a rocky spur. From the village name the word ''bauxite'' was coined for aluminium ore when first discovered there by geologist Pierre Berthier in 1821. Until 13 August 1958, the commune was officially named Les Baux. Istres
Istres (; Occitan: Istre) is a commune in southern France, some 60 km (38 mi) northwest of Marseille. It is in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, of which it is a subprefecture. Location Istres is adjacent to the '' Étang de Berre'' lagoon (the largest in Europe) and the ''Étang de l'Olivier'' lagoon.
