Botshabelo
Botshabelo, meaning "a place of refuge", is a large Township (South Africa), township set up in 1979. It is located east of Bloemfontein in the present-day Free State (South African province), Free State province of South Africa. Botshabelo is now the largest township in Free State. History As many people moved away from the farms in the Free State, they looked for places to stay in the region of Thaba Nchu, another homeland under the old Bophutatswana government. The policy governing Bophutatswana at the time clearly stated that Bophutatswana belongs to those who are of Tswana people, Tswana tribe. As a result, all other tribes, mainly Sotho people, Sotho and Xhosa people, Xhosa, were housed at a squatter camp named “Kromdraai”. Fikile April Mbalula (born 8 April 1971) is a South African politician and current Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC) since December 2022. He was a cabinet minister between 2010 and 2023, most proximately as Minister of Transport from 2019 to 2023. Mbalula rose to national political prominence as the President of the ANC Youth League between 2004 and 2008. During this period, he became an outspoken supporter of Jacob Zuma, whom he supported at the ANC's 2007 Polokwane conference. Katlego Maphathe
Katlego Jackson Maphathe (born 23 April 1993) is a South African soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Durban City in the National First Division. He hails from Botshabelo. He was a youth player in Bloemfontein Celtic and started his senior career in Roses United in the second tier. After that, he joined the development squad of Free State Stars, but went on loan to African Warriors before joining the team permanently. In the 2016–17 National First Division, he played for Thanda Royal Zulu. The team won the championship but was not promoted to the Premier Division, since the owners sold the rights to AmaZulu. Maphathe joined Richards Bay, also on the second tier. He gained recognition when Richards Bay eliminated Kaizer Chiefs from the 2020–21 Nedbank Cup, being named man of the match. N8 (South Africa)
The N8 is a national route in South Africa that connects Groblershoop (south-east of Upington) with Maseru in Lesotho via Kimberley and Bloemfontein. It is maintained by the South African National Roads Agency. The section of road from Groblershoop through Griekwastad and Schmidtsdrift to Kimberley was previously designated as part of the R64. Route Northern Cape The road starts at Groblershoop in the Northern Cape (115 km south-east of Upington) at a junction with the N10. It runs east for 285 km, through Griekwastad, crossing the Vaal River at Schmidtsdrift, to Kimberley (Capital of the Northern Cape). Thaba Nchu
Thaba 'Nchu, also known as Blesberg (''bald mountain'' in Afrikaans), is a town in Free State, South Africa, 63 km east of Bloemfontein and 17 km east of Botshabelo. The population is largely made up of Tswana and Sotho people. The town was settled in December 1833 and officially established in 1873. The town grew larger following the 1913 Natives' Land Act that declared the area a homeland for the Tswana people. Dewetsdorp is a small town in the Free State province of South Africa, 68 km south-east of Bloemfontein. Brandfort, officially renamed Winnie Mandela in 2021, is a small agricultural town in the central Free State (province), Free State province of South Africa, about 60 km northeast of Bloemfontein on the R30 (South Africa), R30 road.
