Borough 1 () is the central Boroughs of Düsseldorf, borough of Düsseldorf, the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and the city's commercial and cultural center. The borough covers an area of 11.31 square kilometres and (as of December 2020) has about 86,000 inhabitants. Despite being one of Düsseldorf's smallest boroughs by area, Stadtbezirk 1 includes several distinct quarters: the city's Medieval Düsseldorf-Altstadt, Altstadt is known as an entertainment district with plenty of Altbier pubs and bars, while the adjacent Baroque-style Düsseldorf-Carlstadt, Carlstadt has a very Bohemian character. Triton (mythology)
Triton (; ) is a Greek mythology, Greek god of the sea, the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Triton lived with his parents in a golden palace on the bottom of the sea. Later he is often depicted as having a conch shell he would blow like a trumpet. Triton is usually represented as a merman, with the upper body of a human and the tailed lower body of a fish. At some time during the Greek and Roman era, Triton(s) became a generic term for a merman (mermen) in art and literature. In English literature, Triton is portrayed as the messenger or herald for the god Poseidon. Triton of Lake Tritonis of ancient Libya is a namesake mythical figure that appeared and aided the Argonauts. Düsseldorf-Pempelfort
Pempelfort is a city part in the North-east of the central Borough 1 of Düsseldorf. It borders on Stadtmitte, Derendorf, the Cologne–Duisburg railway, connecting Flingern and Düsseltal, Oberbilk, Golzheim and the river Rhine. Pempelfort has 33,137 inhabitants (2020) in an area of 2.70 km2, or over 12,000 inhabitants per km2. Some important institutions such as the District Administration / Prefecture of Düsseldorf (Bezirksregierung Düsseldorf) and the Higher Court of Düsseldorf (Oberlandesgericht) are located in Pempelfort. Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus
The is a theatre building and company in Düsseldorf. The present building with two major auditoria was designed by the architect and built between 1965 and 1969. It opened in 1970. History The theatre dates back to 1747 when during the reign of elector Karl Theodor the ''Gießhaus'' was transformed to a theatre. In 1818 Friedrich Wilhelm II donated this building to the city of Düsseldorf. Josef Derossi was its first director, succeeded in 1834 by the poet Karl Leberecht Immermann. In 1905 a house dedicated to plays was opened by Louise Dumont and Gustav Lindemann who brought the house to fame. After World War II Wolfgang Langhoff was the first director, succeeded in 1946 by Gustaf Gründgens. His directions made the house one of the most important stages in Europe. Deutsche Oper Am Rhein
The Deutsche Oper am Rhein (German Opera on the Rhine) is an opera company based in Düsseldorf and Duisburg. The opera also has an associated classical ballet company. Axel Kober has been its music director since 2009. The resident orchestra, the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, play both opera and symphonic repertoire. After the 1875 construction of what became the Düsseldorf ''Opernhaus'', a strong connection between the two cities' opera houses existed from 1887 to 1920, and was not re-established until 1955 with the creation of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. The company performs in the Opernhaus Düsseldorf, built in 1875. It was partially destroyed during World War II, and reconstructed to officially re-open in 1956. New Synagogue (Düsseldorf)
The New Synagogue () is an Orthodox Jewish synagogue, located at Zietenstraße 50, in Düsseldorf, in the Golzheim district of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. History The first synagogue, built in 1905, with approximately 1,000 seats, was pillaged and burned by SA men during the ''Kristallnacht'' in 1938. Designed by Hermann Zvi Guttmann, the current synagogue was inaugurated in September 1958 and is named in honour of Rabbi Leo Baeck, who served as a pulpit rabbi in Düsseldorf. Arson attack On October 2, 2000, two Arab immigrants committed an arson attack against the synagogue, and the building was firebombed with three Molotov cocktails. Although the perpetrators remained unknown for over two months, most media suspected the attack was done by far-right antisemites. Borough 3 () is a central borough of Düsseldorf, the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and the city's most populous and one of its most diverse boroughs. Stadtbezirk 3 covers an area of 24.71 square kilometres and (as of December 2020) has about 121,000 inhabitants.
