Borbála Nádasdy
Countess Borbála Nádasdy de Nádasd et Fogarasföld (born 1939) is a Hungarian noble, ballet master and author. Biography Countess Borbála Nádasdy was born in Budapest as a member of the Nádasdy family, one of the major Hungarian aristocratic families. Her father was Count Pál Nádasdy (1910–1974) and her mother was Antónia Augner (1914–2006), a famous dancer. Nádasdys had another daughter, Countess Erzsebet Maria (b. 1935). After the Second World War monarchists were persecuted in Hungary, so Borbála escaped to Vienna, where she became a famous movie and stage actress. The government revoked the citizenship of Borbála and she found herself stateless. She appeared in only two movies as Barbara von Nady and she played several roles on stage. Years later she moved to Paris, and worked for a ballet master. Personal life Borbála married two times. Hungarian Noble
The Hungarian nobility consisted of a privileged group of individuals, most of whom owned landed property, in the Kingdom of Hungary. Initially, a diverse body of people were described as noblemen, but from the late 12th century only high-ranking royal officials were regarded as noble. Most aristocrats claimed ancestry from a late 9th century Magyar leader. Others were descended from foreign knights, and local Slavic chiefs were also integrated in the nobility. Less illustrious individuals, known as castle warriors, also held landed property and served in the royal army. From the 1170s, most privileged laymen called themselves royal servants to emphasize their direct connection to the monarchs. Nádasdy Family
The House of Nádasdy, also spelled Nadasdy in English, is a major Hungarian aristocratic family whose roots reach into the Middle Ages. Their motto is: "SI DEUS PRO NOBIS QUIS CONTRA NOS" ("If God is for us, who can be against us?"). The Nadasdy family made a large contribution to the development of Hungarian printing. The Nadasdy Hussars, a regiment named after the family, developed a strategy incorporating lightly armed and fast-moving cavalry that was internationally adopted. Early history The name is first encountered in the early part of the 13th century, that of Imre (descendant of Darabos de Nádasd) and his sons, Stefánd, Tódor, and Valkomer. Another important member, deceased before 1275, was Simon Nádasdy. The Hungarian Order of Merit ( hu, Magyar Érdemrend) is the fourth highest State Order of Hungary. Founded in 1991, the order is a revival of an original order founded in 1946 and abolished in 1949. Its origins, however, can be traced to the Order of Merit of the Kingdom of Hungary which existed from 1922 until 1946. In 2011 its official name changed from Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to Hungarian Order of Merit in accordance with the new Hungarian Constitution.
