Blue Springs is a spring in Marion County, in the U.S. state of Florida. It is a third-magnitude spring, found along the southern part of the Ocklawaha River, but is currently submerged by the Rodman Reservoir. Blue Springs is an English translation of the former Spanish name ''Las Aguas Azules''; both names were given on account of the spring's blue waters. A spring is a natural exit point at which groundwater emerges from an aquifer and flows across the ground surface as surface water. It is a component of the hydrosphere, as well as a part of the water cycle. Its name is derived from ''ak-lowahe'', Creek for "muddy". The historical and original source of the Ocklawaha River is Lake Griffin, part of the Harris chain of lakes in Lake County, Florida. The river now receives discharge from the entire Harris Chain of Lakes, including Lake Eustis, Lake Harris, Lake Dora, Lake Beauclair and Lake Apopka, via a series of man-made canals and natural waterways including Haynes Creek, the Dead River, the Dora Canal, and the Apopka-Beauclair Canal. Rodman Reservoir
Rodman Reservoir, or Lake Ocklawaha, is an artificial reservoir located on the Ocklawaha River in Putnam County and Marion County in north-central Florida. The reservoir, located about 15 miles southwest of Palatka, is approximately in length, covers and is located between State Road 19 on the east and State Road 315 on the west. It is also a premier largemouth bass fishery for Northeast Florida. Before the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers created the reservoir, they used a mammoth machine called thcrusher-crawlerto clear sections of the forest along the Ocklawaha's wooded riverbanks. Upon closing Rodman Dam and flooding the reservoir in 1968, the crushed trees floated up to the top of the reservoir.
