Blue Mounds is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2020 census, the village had a population of 950. The village is adjacent to the Town of Blue Mounds, and is part of the Madison metropolitan area. Blue Mounds was named by French missionaries for the blueish hue of three nearby mounds. Geography Blue Mounds is located west of Madison in Dane County near its border with Iowa County. The village is near Brigham Park, the Cave of the Mounds, and Blue Mound State Park, the highest point in southern Wisconsin. Blue Mound State Park
Blue Mound State Park is a state park in Wisconsin, United States, located atop the largest hill in the southern half of the state, near the village of Blue Mounds. The park features a pair of observation towers affording views of the Wisconsin River valley and Baraboo Range to the north, the mounds, buttes, and rolling forests of the Driftless Area to the south and west, and the young glacial plains and city of Madison to the east. Geology West Blue Mound (elev. ), the park's namesake, rises approximately above the Military Ridge. However, when viewed from several miles to the north or south, the apparent local relief can be , as the highest point of the top of the mound sits almost exactly above the Wisconsin River at Arena, 10 miles to the north.
