Blayney is a farming town and administrative centre with a population of 2,997 in 2021, in the Central West, New South Wales, Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. Situated on the Mid-Western Highway about west of Sydney, west of Bathurst, New South Wales, Bathurst and above sea-level, Blayney is the seat of Blayney Shire Council. History Prior to European settlement the area was occupied by the Aboriginal Wiradjuri and, or, Gandangara, Gundungara peoples. The first European to travel through area was surveyor George Evans (explorer), George Evans, in 1815 and unofficial occupation of the district began in 1821. The first land grant in the general area known as Coombing Park was issued to Thomas Icely in 1829. In 1836 the locality was known as King's Plains, with Doyle's inn being the only public-house. Blayney Wind Farm
The Blayney wind farm is a wind power station at Lake Carcoar, south of Blayney, New South Wales, Australia. It was acquired by Trustpower in 2014, and is now owned by Tilt Renewables. Blayney has fifteen wind turbines, with a total nameplate capacity of 9.9 MW of electricity. Technical information Pacific Power International developed the wind farm, and Consolidated Power Projects Australia was the construction contractor. Project cost was A$18 million. The Minister for Energy, Kim Yeadon, opened the wind farm in October, 2000. The wind farm will avoid the emission of 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the 20 year life of the project, compared to the equivalent electricity generation from coal.
