William Eugene Blackstone
William Eugene Blackstone (October 6, 1841 – November 7, 1935) was an American Evangelism, evangelist and Christian Zionism, Christian Zionist. He was the author of the Blackstone Memorial (1891), a petition which called upon the United States to actively Homeland for the Jewish people, return the Holy Land to the Jewish people. Blackstone was influenced by Dwight Lyman Moody, James H. Brookes, and John Nelson Darby. Elliott R. Blackstone (November 30, 1924 – October 25, 2006) was a sergeant in the San Francisco Police Department, known as a longtime advocate for the lesbian, gay and transgender community in that city. Early life Born in Aurora, Illinois and raised in Chinook, Montana, Blackstone served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was honorably discharged. In 1949, he became a San Francisco police officer. He was a pioneer of what later became known as community policing. In 1962, he was designated as the department's first liaison officer with the "homophile community," as it was then called. Blackstone worked within the police department to change policy and procedures directed against the LGBT community, such as entrapment of gay men in public restrooms. Blackstone is a suburb of Ipswich in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the , Blackstone had a population of 1,144 people. History The district was originally called Bundamba Creek but this caused confusion with nearby Bundamba, so the postmistress Mrs Orr proposed the name Blackstone, believed to be a place in Ireland. The area is renowned for its mining history and in 1866 Welshman Lewis Thomas established one of the first mines in the area.
