Black Volta
The Black Volta or Mouhoun ( French: ''Volta noire'') is a river that flows through Burkina Faso for approximately 1,352 km (840 mi) to the White Volta in Dagbon, Ghana, the upper end of Lake Volta. It is one of the three main parts of the Volta, with the White Volta and the Red Volta. The source of the Black Volta is in the Cascades Region of Burkina Faso, close to Mount Tenakourou, the highest point of the country. Further downstream it forms part of the border between Ghana and Burkina Faso, and later between Ivory Coast and Ghana. Within Ghana, it marks the border between the Savannah and Bono regions. Dédougou
Dédougou is a city located in western Burkina Faso. It is the capital city of Mouhoun Province and Boucle du Mouhoun Region. The main ethnic groups are the Marka and the Bwa. The population of Dédougou was 37,793 in 2006; 18,778 were male and 19,015 were female. It is the 10th largest city in Burkina Faso. The village of Dedougou was an early stronghold of pro-French sentiment in the region, and became the center of a ''cercle'' in 1911. Rival villages were obliterated. Dédougou is also the location of the Festival International des Masques et des Arts ( FESTIMA), a biennial international festival celebrating traditional cultural masks. Savannah Region
The Savannah Region is one of the newest regions of Ghana and yet the largest region in the country. The creation of the Region follows presentation of a petition by the Gonja Traditional Council, led by the Yagbonwura Tumtumba Boresa Jakpa I. Upon receiving favourable responses from all stakeholders in the Northern Region (the region it was broken off from), the Brobbey Commission (the Commission tasked with the creation of the new regions), a referendum was conducted on the 27th December 2018. The result was a resounding yes of 99.7%. The President of the Republic of Ghana signed and presented the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 115 to the Yagbonwura in the Jubilee House, Accra on 12 February 2019. Burkina Faso–Ghana Border
The Burkina Faso–Ghana border is 602 km (374 m) in length and runs from the tripoint with Ivory Coast in the west to the tripoint with Togo in the east. Description The border starts in the west at the tripoint with Ivory Coast on the Black Volta river; the border continues north along this river up to the 11th parallel north. The border then turns east, following this parallel until it reaches the Red Volta (though note that the border is not entirely straight in this sector, as at several points the boundary jogs north or south). The Ghana–Ivory Coast border is 720 km (447 m) in length and runs from the tripoint with Burkina Faso in the north to the Atlantic Ocean in the south. Description The border starts in the north at the tripoint with Burkina Faso on the Black Volta river, following this river southwards. The border then follows a straight line overland orientated to south-east, before turning south-west via a series of irregular lines. Bui National Park
The Bui National Park is located in Ghana. It was established in 1971. This park spans 1,821 km2. Geography Bui National Park is bisected by the Black Volta River; the section on the West of the river forms part of the Bono region and the section on the East of the river forms part of the Savannah Region of Ghana. The park borders Ivory Coast to the West. The closest towns are Nsawkaw, Wenchi and Techiman. Environment The park is located in a typical woodland savanna zone. It is notable for its large hippopotamus population in the Black Volta. The endangered ursine colobus and a variety of antelopes and birds are also present. Bui Dam
The Bui Dam is a hydroelectric project in Ghana. It is built on the Black Volta river at the ''Bui Gorge'', at the southern end of Bui National Park. The project was a collaboration between the government of Ghana and Sino Hydro, a Chinese state-owned construction company. Construction on the main dam began in December 2009. Its first generator was commissioned on 3 May 2013, and the dam was inaugurated in December of the same year. Bui is the second largest hydroelectric generating plant in the country after the Akosombo Dam. The reservoir flooded about 20% of the Bui National Park and impacted the habitats for the rare black hippopotamus as well as a large number of wildlife species. It required the resettlement of 1,216 people, and affected the lives and livelihoods of many more. Bono Region
The Bono region is one of the 16 administrative regions of Ghana. It is as a result of the remainder of Brong-Ahafo region when Bono East region and Ahafo Region, Ahafo region were created. Sunyani, also known as the green city of Ghana, is the regional capital. Sunyani can pride itself as the cleanest capital city and a major conference destination. Creation of the region The region was created after the Ahafo region and Bono East region respectively have been carved out of the then Brong-Ahafo region.
