Björgvin G. Sigurðsson
Björgvin G. Sigurðsson (born 30 October 1970) is an Icelandic politician, representing the Social Democratic Alliance. He became Iceland's first Minister of Business Affairs (Iceland), Minister of Business Affairs when the new ministry was split off from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (Iceland), Ministry of Industry and Commerce on 24 May 2007. The Icelandic Ministry of Business Affairs (Icelandic: '), also translated as the Ministry of Commerce or Ministry of Trade, is a government ministry established on 24 May 2007, when it was split off from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (Iceland), Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The ministry is responsible for company law, competition law, financial services, insurance and trade (both domestic and internal). Its first minister was Björgvin G. Sigurðsson of the Social Democratic Alliance. He tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde on 25 January 2009 to take partial responsibility for the 2008–2012 Icelandic financial crisis. Björgvin was replaced on 1 February by Gylfi Magnússon, a professor of economics at the University of Iceland without party political affiliation. 2009 Icelandic Financial Crisis Protests
The 2009–2011 Icelandic financial crisis protests, also referred to as the Kitchenware, Kitchen Implement or Pots and Pans Revolution ( Icelandic: ''Búsáhaldabyltingin''), occurred after the 2008–2012 Icelandic financial crisis. There had been regular and growing protests since October 2008 against the Government of Iceland's handling of the 2008 financial crisis. The protests intensified on 20 January 2009 with thousands of people protesting at the parliament (''Althing'') in ReykjavÃk. These were at the time the largest protests in Icelandic history. Protesters were calling for the resignation of government officials and for new elections to be held. Kolbrún Halldórsdóttir (born 31 July 1955) is the chairman of BHM (Iceland), BHM, the confederation of university graduates in Iceland. She is a former politician with the Left-Green Movement. South (Althing Constituency)
South () is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established in 2003 following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland when the Southern constituency was merged with municipalities of Gerðahreppur, GrindavÃk, Reykjanesbær, Sandgerði and Vatnsleysustrandarhreppur from the Reykjanes constituency and the municipality of Sveitarfélagið Hornafjörður from the Eastern constituency. South consists of the Southern and Southern Peninsula regions.
