Bjarke Ingels Group, often referred to as BIG, is a Copenhagen, New York City, London, Barcelona, Shanghai, Oslo, Los Angeles, Zurich, and Bhutan-based group of architects and designers operating within the fields of architecture, product, landscape design, and planning. The office is currently involved in a large number of projects throughout Europe, North America, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East. As of 2023, the company employs 700+ people. History Bjarke Ingels and Julien De Smedt established the company PLOT in Copenhagen in January 2001, as a focus for their architectural practice. Ingels established BIG in late 2006 after he and De Smedt closed down PLOT. Bjarke Ingels
Bjarke Bundgaard Ingels (; born 2 October 1974) is a Danish architect, founder and creative partner of Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). In Denmark, Ingels became well known after designing two housing complexes in Ørestad: VM Houses and Mountain Dwellings. In 2006 he founded Bjarke Ingels Group, which grew to a staff of 400 by 2015, with noted projects including the 8 House housing complex, VIA 57 West in Manhattan, the Google North Bayshore headquarters (co-designed with Thomas Heatherwick), the Superkilen park, and the Amager Bakke, Amager Resource Center (ARC) waste-to-energy plant – the latter which incorporates both a ski slope and climbing wall on the building exterior. Hyperloop is a proposed high-speed transportation system for both passengers and freight. The concept was published by entrepreneur Elon Musk in a 2013 white paper, where the hyperloop was described as a transportation system using capsules supported by an air bearing, air-bearing surface within a low-pressure tube. Hyperloop systems have three essential elements: tubes, pods, and terminals. The tube is a large, sealed Vacuum#Vacuum-driven machines, low-pressure system (typically a long tunnel). Lars Holme Larsen
Lars Holme Larsen is a Danish designer, known for founding Danish industrial design studio Kilo Design and co-founding Danish design collaboration KiBiSi with Bjarke Ingels and Jens Martin Skibsted. Larsen is a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Alongside his design practice, he is a member of the Danish Design Council and has served on a number of award juries, including D&AD, core77 and Cannes Lions. Howard Terminal Ballpark was a proposed Ballpark, baseball stadium to be built in the Jack London Square neighborhood of Oakland, California. If approved and constructed, it would have served as the new home stadium of the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB), replacing the Oakland Coliseum. The 34,000-seat stadium was the last of several proposals to keep the Athletics in Oakland. For two years, artists and activists in Tirana, Albania, demonstrated to protect the historic National Theatre (Albania), National Theatre building from being demolished. Built in 1939, during the early years of Italian protectorate of Albania (1939–1943), Italian rule, Albania's National Theatre worked as a cinema until the end of the Second World War, when a stage replaced the former screen. In 2018, due to the lack of maintenance and investments over the years, the government announced a plan to demolish the National Theatre's building and send the artists into an alternative stage until the new theatre would be built in the same place.
