Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School (McGuinness) is a college-preparatory secondary school located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States. It has an enrollment of 720 students in grades 9 through 12, is co-educational, and serves as part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, Archdiocese of Oklahoma City in the Roman Catholic Church. History The school was founded in 1950 by the archdiocese as “Central Catholic High School.” Despite the name, the school was on the northern fringe of Oklahoma City at the time. The name "Central" referred to the fact that the school was founded as a replacement for multiple small parish-based parochial high schools that had become outdated by the 1950s. As a result, then-bishop Eugene J. Stanley Rother
Stanley Francis Rother ( ; March 27, 1935 – July 28, 1981) was an American Catholic priest from Oklahoma who was murdered in Guatemala in 1981. He had worked as a missionary priest there since 1968. He held several parish assignments as a priest of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City from 1963 to 1968 before being assigned to Guatemala. On December 1, 2016, Pope Francis confirmed that Rother had died a martyr, murdered for his faith, and Rother was beatified on September 23, 2017, in Oklahoma City. He is the first U.S.-born priest and martyr to be beatified by the Catholic Church, and the second person to be beatified on American soil after the New Jersey-born nun Miriam Teresa Demjanovich in 2014. Sanford Charles "Sandy" Coats (born 1971) is the former United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma. Early life and education Coats was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1971. His father, Andy Coats, served as mayor of Oklahoma City and was the Democratic Party's unsuccessful candidate in the 1980 Oklahoma Senate election. Janet Barresi (born March 6, 1952) is a former dentist and former Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction who was elected on November 2, 2010 and began her term of service on January 10, 2011. Her term in office followed former Superintendent Sandy Garrett who chose not to run for re-election in 2010. In 2014, Barresi was defeated in the Republican primary by Joy Hofmeister. Blake Bailey
Blake Bailey (born July 1, 1963) is an American writer, and educator. Bailey is known for his literary biographies of Richard Yates, John Cheever, Charles Jackson, and Philip Roth. He is the editor of the Library of America omnibus editions of Cheever's stories and novels.
