Birgir Hafþórsson
Birgir Leifur Hafþórsson (born 16 May 1976) is an Icelandic professional golfer and former European Tour player. At age 41, he became Iceland's first winner on the Challenge Tour, winning the 2017 Cordon Golf Open in France. He also won the mixed team gold and the men's silver at the 2018 European Golf Team Championships at Gleneagles, Scotland. Early life and amateur career Hafþórsson was born in Akranes, Iceland, and took up golf with a group of friends when he was 12. His uncle Sveinn Arsalsson was the first National Champion of Iceland. He first won the Icelandic National Golf Championship as an amateur in 1996, and would go on to win also in 2003, 2004 and 2010. Akranes
Akranes () is a port town and municipality on the west coast of Iceland, around north of the capital Reykjavík. The area where Akranes is located was settled in the 9th century; however, it did not receive a municipal charter until 1942. History Akranes was settled in the 9th century by the brothers Þormóður and Ketill, sons of Bresi, who came from Ireland. The town started to form in the mid-17th century as a fishing village. Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (born 13 October 1980) is a Spanish professional golfer. He has played on the European Tour, winning seven times, and on the PGA Tour. Early life Fernández-Castaño was born in Madrid. He started playing golf at the age of three and had a successful amateur career, winning the 2003 Spanish Amateur Open Championship and achieving the first place in the Spanish amateur ranking in the same year. The European Championships is a multi-sport tournament which brings together the existing European Championships of some of the continent's leading sports every four years. The inaugural edition in 2018 was staged by the host cities of Berlin, Germany and Glasgow, United Kingdom between 2 and 12 August. The second edition in 2022 took place in Munich, Germany. Andrea Pavan (born 27 April 1989) is an Italian professional golfer who currently plays on the European Tour. He has won twice on the European Tour, the 2018 D+D Real Czech Masters and the 2019 BMW International Open. Amateur career Pavan won the Italian Amateur Strokeplay Championship in 2005 at the age of 16, and subsequently opted to join the collegiate circuit in the USA. Matthew James Ford (born 19 April 1978) is an English professional golfer. Ford has played mostly on the Challenge Tour except for two seasons, 2015 and 2016, when he played on the European Tour. Professional career Ford qualified for the European Tour after finishing fourth in the 2014 European Tour qualifying school. He had a good start to 2015, finishing second in the Africa Open in March.
