Birger Möller
Birger is a Scandinavian name from Old Norse, ''bjarga'', meaning "to help, to save, to protect". It is widely used in Norway as Birger but also as Børge. The Swedish variant of ''Birger'' would soon evolve into ''Börje'', however, the prior form would remain common, and was not confused with its successor. The Icelandic form is ''Birgir''. Birger is primarily a masculine given name, but can also be found as a surname. Malene Birger is a Danish fashion designer. She co-founded Day Birger et Mikkelsen in 1997 and By Malene Birger in 2003. Career Birger graduated from the Danish Design School in 1989. She began her career in the fashion industry in 1989 as designer at Jackpot by Carli Gry. She was also the head designer of women's wear at Marc O'Polo in Stockholm. In 1997, Birger co-founded the company Day Birger et Mikkelsen. She was the creative director of the company until leaving it in 2002. Hugo Birger (until 1878 Hugo Birger Peterson) (12 January 1854 – 17 June 1887) was a Swedish painter. Biography Youth Born in Stockholm, his father was printmaker Sven August Peterson who, among other things, printed securities. By accompanying his father around Stockholm's pubs, Birger became familiar with many artistic personalities already at the age of 10. This and the association with his father at his lithographic workshop gave Birger both a literary and artistic interest. As a 13-year-old, Birger began his education at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts' preparatory school, which was the preparatory education for the academy. Charles "Charlie" Birger (born Shachna Itzak Birger, February 5, 1881 – April 19, 1928) was an American bootlegger during the Prohibition period in southern Illinois. Early life Charles Birger was born to a Jewish family in the Russian Empire, and emigrated to the United States as a child with his parents. Birger and his family settled in St. Louis, where, aged eight, Charlie got a job as a news boy at the ''St. Louis Post-Dispatch'' newspaper. Later, Birger moved to the O'Fallon, Missouri, area, where he started work in a pool room. Birger Sjöberg (1885–1929) was a Swedish poet, novelist and songwriter, whose best-known works include the faux-naïf song collection ''Fridas bok'' (Frida's book) and the novel ''Kvartetten som sprängdes'' (The quartet that split up), a somewhat Dickensian relation about stock-exchange gambling in the twenties, and the frantic efforts to recover. Originally a journalist, Sjöberg wrote songs in his spare time. Birger Ljungström (4 June 1872 – 17 November 1948) was a Swedish engineer, technical designer, industrialist, and inventor.
