Its boundaries were created on 28 September 2000 for the "long established local name". Its name is derived from the Billiatt Conservation Park and the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Billiatt. The principal land use within the locality is conservation with the majority of its land area being occupied by the Billiatt Wilderness Protection Area. The wilderness protection area occupies in land in the gazetted localities of Billiatt, Lameroo and Sandalwood. The County of Chandos is one of the 49 cadastral counties of South Australia. __NOTOC__ Billiatt Conservation Park, formerly the Billiatt National Park, is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located in the locality of Sandalwood about east of the state capital of Adelaide. Description The conservation park occupies a parcel of land known as ‘Allotment 101 of Deposited Plan 51151’ in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Auld in the locality of Sandalwood. The country is characterised by sand dunes with a mosaic of open mallee scrub. Ridge-fruited and red-tipped slender leaf mallees add colour to the dunes with broombush growing in the mottled shade. Murray Mallee
The Murray Mallee is the grain-growing and sheep-farming area of South Australia bounded to the north and west by the Murray River (in South Australia, "River Murray"), to the east by the Victorian border, and extending about 50 km south of the Mallee Highway. The Murray Mallee area is predominantly a vast plain of low elevation, with sandhills and gentle undulating sandy rises, interspersed by flats. The annual rainfall ranges from approximately 250 mm in the north to 400 mm further south. The area was very lightly populated up until the beginning of the 20th century, with marginal pastoral runs of sheep at low stocking rates. Lameroo is a town in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia. It is on the Mallee Highway and Pinnaroo railway line about 40 km west of the Victorian border, or 210 km east of Adelaide. It is primarily a service town for the surrounding rural areas, growing grain and sheep. Loxton is a town on the south bank of the River Murray in the Riverland region of South Australia. It is located on the lands of the Erawirung people who occupied the area before European colonisation. At the 2016 census, Loxton had a population of 4,568.
