Bill Moore (footballer, Born 1913)
William Moore (1913 – 1982) was an English footballer and manager. He played for Mansfield Town and Stoke City and also managed Walsall over two periods. Playing career Born in Washington, Tyne and Wear, Moore played for Walker Celtic in the late 1920s and early 1930s before joining Stoke City for whom he made four appearances for Stoke in defence over two seasons. In 1938 he moved to Mansfield Town and scored a goal against Walsall when playing in the FA Jubilee match in 1939. Coaching career After the War Moore was appointed trainer of Notts County, who at the time were managed by former Aston Villa and England forward Eric Houghton. Tommy Lawton and Jackie Sewell were two of the star players under Moore's supervision at Meadow Lane. When Houghton returned to Villa Park as manager, Bill Moore went with him as right-hand man and he played a big part in Villa's FA Cup triumph over Manchester United in 1957. Washington, Tyne And Wear
Washington is a town in the City of Sunderland, Sunderland district, in Tyne and Wear, England. Historically part of County Durham, it is the ancestral settlement of the local Washington family, from which the first President of the United States George Washington descended. It has a population of 67,085. It is located between Chester-le-Street, Gateshead and South Tyneside. Washington was designated a New towns in the United Kingdom, new town in 1964. It became part of Tyne and Wear in 1974. The Football League Fourth Division was the fourth-highest division in the English football league system from the 1958–59 season until the creation of the Premier League prior to the 1992–93 season. Following the creation of the Premier League, the fourth tier of English football was renamed the Football League Third Division, before being rebranded as Football League Two in 2004. Football League Third Division North
The Third Division North of the Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division South with clubs elected to the League or relegated from a higher division allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division North and the Third Division South according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season. The Third Division South had been created in 1921 from the Third Division formed the previous year made up of 22 teams drawn mostly from the Southern League. It was decided that this gave the Football League overall too much of a southern bias, so the Third Division North was created in 1921–22 to redress the balance. The Football League First Division was the top division of the Football League in England from 1888 until the end of the 1991–92 season, when its teams broke away to form the Premier League. From 1992 to 2004, the name First Division was given to what had previously been called the Second Division. Ray Train
Raymond Train (born 10 February 1951) is an English former football player, coach, scout and manager. He played primarily as a defensive midfielder, but also frequently played in more attacking positions, including as a striker. He amassed over 500 appearances in the Football League, and achieved promotion to the First Division with Carlisle United, Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers and Watford. After retiring as a player, Train turned to coaching, and briefly managed Walsall as a caretaker in the 1988–89 season. Playing career Born in Bedworth, Warwickshire, Train started his career as an amateur at Bedworth United. He was rejected as a triallist by Coventry City due to his lack of height, but joined Walsall as an apprentice in 1967, and turned professional the following year. He remained at the club until 1971, when he joined Second Division side Carlisle United. After 20 appearances in his debut season, Train established himself as a first-team regular at Carlisle. His QPR debut was on Saturday 22 August 1970 in a 3–1 defeat at home to Leicester City. Parkes was part of the QPR team that reached the last eight of the FA Cup in 1974 and were League runners-up to Liverpool in 1976.
