Big Lake, Edmonton
Big Lake is a residential area in the northwest portion of the City of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. It was established in 1991 through Edmonton City Council's adoption of the Big Lake Area Structure Plan, which guides the overall development of the area. Geography The Big Lake area is located in the northwest corner of Edmonton. It is bounded by 231 Street to the west, Yellowhead Trail (Highway 16) to the south, Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216) and Ray Gibbon Drive to the east, 137 Avenue to the northeast, and body of water Big Lake to the northwest. It excludes the Big Lake Estates country residential subdivision that is located at the northeast of Yellowhead Trail and 231 Street. Parkland County is located beyond 231 Street to the west, while the City of St. Albert is located beyond 137 Avenue to the northeast. Ray Gibbon Drive
Ray Gibbon Drive, referred to as the West Regional Road during proposal and planning stages, is a major arterial road in St. Albert, Alberta. With the exception of the Edmonton portion of 184 Street, it is only partially constructed as a two-lane road. Currently, it is long and runs between Anthony Henday Drive and Villeneuve Road. It was named at the official opening of Stage One in October 2007, after former mayor of St. Albert Ray Gibbon, who served from 1968 to 1974 and again in 1989. Gibbon died in 1999, but his wife and family were present for the official opening, riding in the vintage lead vehicle for the first use of the road. Sturgeon County is a municipal district in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada. It is north of Edmonton and west of the North Saskatchewan River. Sturgeon County is located in Division No. 11 and was named for the Sturgeon River. Big Lake (Alberta)
Big Lake is a lake in Edmonton metropolitan region, Canada. It is located adjacent to the northwest corner of Edmonton and the southwest corner of St. Albert. Its primary inflow is the Sturgeon River. The lake sits on the sands and gravels of the Empress Formation, an aquifer below its surface that was laid down by retreating glacial meltwaters. Big Lake is part of the long Sturgeon River that begins at Hoople Lake and flows east to the North Saskatchewan River. Atim Creek flows into Big Lake from the west and Carrot Creek from the north.
