Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne De Bienville
Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville (; ; February 23, 1680 – March 7, 1767), also known as Sieur de Bienville, was a French-Canadian colonial administrator in New France. Born in Montreal, he was an early governor of French Louisiana, appointed four separate times during 1701–1743. He was the younger brother of explorer Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville. Early life Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne was the son of Charles le Moyne, born in Longueil, near Dieppe, and Catherine Primot (also known as Catherine Thierry), born in Rouen, both cities in the Province of Normandy. Charles le Moyne established his family in the settlement of Ville-Marie (present day Montreal) at an early age and had fourteen children. Exploration in the New World At the age of seventeen, Bienville joined his brother Iberville on an expedition to establish the colony of Louisiana. Pierre Joseph Céloron De Blainville
Pierre-Joseph Céloron de Blainville (29December 169314April 1759), also known as Celeron de Bienville (or Céleron, or Céloron, etc.), was a French Canadian Officer of Marine. In 1739 and 1740 he led a detachment to Louisiana to fight the Chickasaw in the abortive Chickasaw Campaign of 1739. In 1749 he led the "Lead Plate Expedition" to advance France's territorial claim on the Ohio Valley. Biography Pierre Joseph Céloron de Blainville was born at Montreal on 29 December 1693. He was the son of Jean-Baptiste Céloron de Blainville and Hélène Picoté de Belestre. Céloron entered military service in 1713. At this time the French collaborated with the Indians in pressuring the New England colonies. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1731. He was appointed lieutenant commandant to the post at Michilimackinac in 1734 (Burton, 328). Bienville Parish (, ) is a parish located in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Louisiana. At the 2020 census, the population was 12,981. The parish seat and most populous municipality is Arcadia. The highest natural point in Louisiana, a hill known as Mt. Driskill, in elevation, is located in north central Bienville Parish. The mountain is located on private land with public access by walking trail. It is named for James Christopher Driskill, a 19th-century landowner. Nearby is Jordan Mountain, with an elevation of . Bienville National Forest is a United States National Forest in central Mississippi, named for Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. It lies in parts of Scott, Smith, Jasper, and Newton counties and has an area of . The forest is headquartered in Jackson, as well as all six National Forests in Mississippi, with local ranger district offices located in Forest, Mississippi. The forest lies within the Southeastern mixed forests ecoregion and supports mixed forests of pine and oak. The upper courses of the Leaf and Strong Rivers flow through the forest. Recreational opportunities include camping, hiking, boating and fishing for species such as Bass, Bream, and Crappie, on Marathon Lake and Shongelo Lake. There are three Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) within Bienville National Forest: Bienville WMA; Tallahalla WMA; and Caney Creek WMA. Lake Bienville
Lake Bienville (; ) is a lake in western central Quebec in Canada. The lake was named after Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, the younger brother of Sieur d'Iberville. The lake has several outlets, draining both east into Ungava Bay and west into Little Whale River, and into Great Whale River, which flows through this lake on its way to Hudson Bay. Lake Bienville is on the southern edge of the subarctic climate zone. The lake has an area of 1015 km2. Freshwater seals have been reported living in the lake, and wood caribou roam around its shores. A proposed hydroelectric project, James Bay II, would result in the flooding of the land around the lake. Bienville House, or the Bienville House Hotel, is a hotel in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. Its building dates from 1835. It was converted to a hotel in 1967. The building began as Planters Rice Mill in 1835. It later became a syrup factory, a hotel, a firehouse, and an apartment building known as the Royal Bienville. The Monteleone family purchased the building in 1972 and converted it into the Bienville House Hotel. A Tiki-themed bar and restaurant opened in the hotel in 2014.
