Biała Dama (vodka)
Biała Dama is an unflavored vodka produced by Polmos Łańcut. According to its producer it has delicate, unobtrusive aromatic note of neutral grain spirits. It contains 40% alcohol by volume. The vodka has a tradition of more than 200 years. ''Biała Dama'' ( pl: ''White Lady'') refers to a ghost of Julia Potocka, whose mother established the distillery in Łańcut. Vodka ( ; is a clear distilled beverage, distilled alcoholic beverage. Its varieties originated in Poland and Russia. Vodka is composed mainly of water and ethanol but sometimes with traces of impurities and flavourings. Traditionally, it is made by distilling liquid from Fermentation in food processing, fermented cereal, cereal grains and potatoes since the latter was introduced in Europe in the 18th century. Some modern brands use maize, Sugarcane, sugar cane, fruits, fruit, honey, and Maple syrup, maple sap as the base. Since the 1890s, standard vodkas have been 40% alcohol by volume (ABV) (80 U.S. proof). The European Union has established a minimum alcohol content of 37.5% for vodka. Polmos Łańcut
The Polmos Łańcut distillation, distillery is one of the oldest producers of liquors and liqueurs in Poland. A small amount of the distillery's output is exported to Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and the United States. History The distillery in Łańcut was founded by Duchess Elżbieta Czartoryska (1736–1816), Lubomirska on the vast estate of the Lubomirski family. An original document attesting to the distillery's existence in 1784 can be found in its museum. Primarily the Łańcut estate produced regular, anise flavoured and sweetened vodkas. Count Alfred Wojciech Potocki, a grandson and heir of the Duchess, started to run the Łańcut and Lwów Lubomirski estates in 1823. He modernised the management of these properties, and implemented the Schwartz distillation equipment. Łańcut
Łańcut (, ; ; ) is a town in south-eastern Poland, with 18,004 inhabitants, as of 2 June 2009. Situated in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship (since 1999), it is the Capital (political), capital of Łańcut County. History Archeological investigations carried out in the region of Łańcut confirm the existence of human settlements from about 4000 years B.C. The first owner of the town was Otton (''z Pilczy'') Pilecki, who was given the Łańcut estate by the List of Polish monarchs, Polish king, Casimir III the Great, in 1349, as a reward for his service. At the same time, the king also granted Łańcut its Town privileges, city rights according to Magdeburg rights, Magdeburg law. In 1381 Łańcut was officially named a ‘town’ for the first time, by Otton Pilecki, in the foundation charter of the town. Łańcut remained under the ownership of the Pilecki family up to 1586.
