Bhattadev University
Bhattadev University is a public state university located at Pathsala, Bajali district, Assam. The university is established by ''Bhattadev University Act, 2017'' which was passed by the Governor of Assam on 7 September 2017. It was created by upgrading Bajali College of Pathsala, Bajali district. The UGC has recognized Bhattadev University as an institution “empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of the UGC Act 1956 by conducting courses through its own departments, its constituent colleges and/or through its affiliated colleges in regular mode with the approval of concerned statutory bodies/councils” vide its letter F.No. 9-12/2019 (CPP-I/PU) dated 25 September 2019. Pathsala
Pathsala is a town in the Bajali District, now in Assam, India, with a population of nearly 11.5 thousand (according to the 2011 census) and an area of 2.74 square kilometres. Bajali is a newly formed district of the Indian state of Assam, carved out of the district of Barpeta. It was formed on 10 August 2020 by the government order of former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. On 31 December 2022, the district was merged with the existing Barpeta district and again On 25 August, 2023, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision to recreate the merged district of Bajali from its original districts. Bajali District
Bajali district is a district of the Indian state of Assam, carved out of Barpeta district. The Assam Cabinet headed by former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal approved the proposal to make Bajali a full-fledged district on 10 August 2020. On 12 January 2021 Bajali was formally declared as a district. On 31 December 2022, the district was remerged with existing Barpeta district. However, on August 25, 2023, the Assam cabinet made an announcement regarding the restoration of the district status of Bajali and on October 12, Bajali again became a district. University Grants Commission (India)
University Grants Commission (UGC; ISO: ''Viśvavidyālaya Anudāna Āyōga'') is a statutory body under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. It was set up in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India. It provides recognition to universities in India, and disbursements of funds to such recognized universities and colleges. The UGC headquarters are in New Delhi, and it has six regional centres in Pune, Bhopal, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Bengaluru. A proposal to replace it with another new regulatory body called HECI is under consideration by the Government of India. In India, state universities are run and funded by the State governments in India, state government of each of the states of India. Following the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950, education became a State List, state responsibility. It is named after an illustrious son of Assam Baikunthanath Bhagavat Bhattacharya popularly known as Bhattadev, who is acknowledged as the father of Assamese prose.
