Little Red Schoolhouse (Beyerville, Arizona)
The Little Red Schoolhouse is a historic one-room schoolhouse located a few miles northeast of Nogales, Arizona, in the community of Beyerville. Opened in 1921 to serve the children of local farmers and ranchers, the Little Red Schoolhouse is the only one remaining of approximately two dozen red schoolhouses built in the Santa Cruz River valley in the 1920s. Next to the historic Little Red Schoolhouse is the modern Little Red Schoolhouse elementary school, a larger K–8 facility that replaced the original schoolhouse. Patagonia is a town in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 913. It developed in the mid-19th century as a trading and supply center for nearby mines and ranches. In the 21st century, it is a tourist destination, retirement community, and arts and crafts center. Geography The town is located in the valley of Sonoita Creek between the Santa Rita Mountains to the north and the Patagonia Mountains to the south. State route 82 passes through the town. State Route 82 (SR 82) is an east–west state highway in southern Arizona. The western terminus of Route 82 is located at its junction with Business Loop 19 (Grand Avenue) in Nogales and its eastern terminus at its junction with State Route 80 just north of Tombstone. Between Nogales and Patagonia, it is also known as Patagonia Road and Patagonia Highway. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
