Beyens (Belgian Family)
Beyens is a Belgian family of lawyers and diplomats, originating from Nazareth near Deinze and admitted into the Belgian nobility in 1851. The Beyens family in Nazareth The name Beyens is frequently found in Nazareth, in Deinze and more generally in the Ghent area. In the early seventeenth century people named Beyens belonged to the notable personalities of the area. Livinus Beyens was mayor of Nazareth in 1625. In the first quarter of the 18th century, Franciscus Beyens, born in Nazareth on 7 August 1691, married Josine (Judoca) Van Acker. Franciscus was the son of Paulus Beyens, born in Nazareth 29 October 1659, and of Joanna Vermeersch and the grandson of Laurentius Beyens, born in Nazareth on 28 March 1630 and Petronella Wouters. Beyens de Grambais is a Dutch-Belgian family of nobility, with a branch settling in the Southern Netherlands in the early 17th century. A Brabant family The Beyens family originates in the North Brabant in the Netherlands. * I. Godefroid Beyens, Lord of Drummel and Provost of the brotherhood of the Holy-Virgin in 's-Hertogenbosch. He is included i''Nederlandsch geslacht- stam- en wapenboek''of Abraham Ferwerda (1785) who writes: "Godefroid Beyens, knight, lived in 1402 and married Maria van Breugel daughter of Jan and Maria Spierinek." Beyens (Spanish Family)
The brothers Josse Beyens and Cornelio Beyens, born respectively in 1666 and 1672 in a merchant family of Merxem near Antwerp, left to establish themselves in Cadiz in Spain at the end of the 17th century. They were the sons of Josse Beyens. The origins The family Beyens had many connexions with the parish church of St Bartholomew in Merksem. In its archives are to be found some members of the family Beyens. In the 17th century appears Lucia Beyens, married to Thomas Bogaerts. They wrote their wills on 5 May 1653. There was also Joannes Beyens, who was sacristan and schoolmaster between 1673 and 1695. Also Joos Beyens, who between 1681 and 1703 exercised the craft of cartwright. Josef Beyens was baptized on 17 April 1639 in the parish church of Merksem. He was the son of Juan Beyens and Petronela van Beren. Kristof Beyens
Kristof Beyens (born 13 July 1983 in Herentals) is a Belgian sprint athlete, who specialises in the 100 and 200 metres. His personal best time over 200 metres is 20.44 s, achieved in Osaka during the World Championships. Beyens finished fourth in the 200 metres final at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. In the same year, he was awarded the Gouden Spike. He also competed in the 2005 World Athletics Championships in the same event, reaching the second round. Beyens represented Belgium at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He competed at the 200 metres and placed third in his first round heat after Rondel Sorrillo and Usain Bolt in a time of 20.69 seconds. He improved his time in the second round to 20.50 seconds and placed third again, this time behind Brendan Christian and Churandy Martina.
