Bevin Court
Bevin Court is a housing project in Finsbury, London. It is one of several modernist architecture, modernist housing projects designed in the city in the immediate postwar period by the Tecton Group, Tecton architecture practice, led by Berthold Lubetkin. Following the dissolution of Tecton, the project was realised by Lubetkin, Francis Skinner (architect), Francis Skinner and Douglas Carr Bailey. The project was completed in 1954. Location Located in Cruikshank Street, London WC1, the scheme is built on the site of the bomb-destroyed Holford Square in Finsbury. It incorporates the main building of Bevin Court, plus the smaller Holford House (which echoes the form of its larger neighbour) and Amwell House (itself of interest as a modernist interpretation of the bay-fronted Victorian terrace). Bevin Glacier
Bevin Glacier () is a glacier long, which flows east from the plateau escarpment on the east side of Graham Land into the northwest end of Cabinet Inlet between Attlee Glacier and Anderson Glacier. During December 1947 it was charted by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) and photographed from the air by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition. It was named by the FIDS for Rt. Hon. Ernest Bevin, M.P., British Minister of Labour and National Service and member of the War Cabinet. Bevin House
The Delamater-Bevin Mansion, also known as The Bevin House, is a historic 22-room Victorian mansion on the north shore of Long Island within the Incorporated Village of Asharoken, New York. The estate is on the Eatons Neck landmass on the edge of Duck Island Harbor, an inlet of Northport Bay, off Long Island Sound. History The home was built by Cornelius Henry DeLamater in 1862 in the French Second Empire architectural style and was initially known as Vermland. DeLamater owned over of Eaton's Neck and the DeLamater Iron Work in NYC, where W. 13th St meets the Hudson River. The turret, engines, and weaponry on the Ironclad "Monitor" were built by DeLamater's foundry under the direction of noted marine engineer John Ericsson. DeLamater named his summer estate "Vermland" after the Swedish province where Ericsson was born, as the two men were best of friends and inseparable. Slagle Ridge () is a high and massive snow-covered ridge between Slone Glacier and Burnette Glacier in the Admiralty Mountains, Victoria Land, Antarctica. Exploration and name Slagle Ridge was mapped by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and United States Navy air photos, 1960–63. It was named by the United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Captain Thomas D. Slagle, U.S. Navy, Chief Medical Officer at Little America V in 1958. Location The Slagle Ridge extends northwest-southeast between the Slone Glacier and Burnette Glacier, both tributaries of the Moubray Glacier, which flows down the west side of the Adare Peninsula.
