The John Herrington House and Herrington Bethel Church are a pair of historic buildings located near Mechanicstown in Carroll County, Ohio, United States. Constructed in the 1840s, they bear the name of a prominent local Methodist minister, and they have together been named a historic site. Pennsylvania native John Herrington migrated west to eastern Ohio following the American Revolution, in which he served as a drummer boy. Upon settling in present-day Carroll County, he began farming and preaching Methodism among the pioneer settlers, and he became one of the area's preëminent early religious leaders. Mount Bethel Church is a Presbyterian church located at the junction of County Route 5 (Jersey Mountain Road) and County Route 5/4 (Three Churches Hollow Road) in the unincorporated community of Three Churches north of Romney in Hampshire County, West Virginia, United States. History In 1792, a group of Presbyterians established a church near Mount Bethel's current location. It was first called the Mountain Church in 1808 and soon became the center of Presbyterian work in Hampshire County under the auspices of the Reverend John Lyle. The Bethel Church (formerly Bethel Baptist Institutional Church) is a historically-black Baptist megachurch in Jacksonville, Florida, in the United States. Founded in 1838, it is the city's oldest Baptist congregation. The attendance is 12,000 members. The senior pastor is Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick Jr. The historic church building is on the National Register of Historic Places. History Established under co-pastors James McDonald and Ryan Frier, in 1838, Bethel Baptist is the oldest Baptist congregation in Jacksonville. At its inception it had only six charter members, four whites and two blacks, the latter of whom were held as slaves by white members. The first meetings were held at "Mother Sam's", a local plantation. Bethel Church (also known as New Bethel Church or Bethel Methodist Church) is a historic Methodist church located on Missouri Highway T near Labadie, Missouri. The church was built in 1868 to replace a log building constructed in 1840 for Franklin County's first Methodist congregation. The red brick building has an unornamented Greek Revival design. The building has a Greek temple form with a low gable roof and square brick pilasters flanking the door and separating the large side windows. The interior of the church has a high ceiling, a balcony above the narthex, and white-painted features. Bethel Cemetery And Church
Bethel Cemetery is a cemetery at the intersection of US 27 and KY 17 approximately 5 miles north of Falmouth, Pendleton County, Kentucky, at the site of the former Bethel Church. The historic frame church stood at this intersection since its dedication in 1881. The original pews were still in the building and volunteers had recently restored the church when it was destroyed by a tornado in 2015. The land for the church and cemetery was donated by the estate of William J. Bradford. The Bethel Church was named a Kentucky Landmark in April 2008. The Bethel Cemetery board hoped to have the building listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
