Beth Orton
Elizabeth Caroline Orton (born 14 December 1970) is an English musician known for her "folktronica" sound, which mixes elements of folk and electronica. She was initially recognised for her collaborations with William Orbit, Andrew Weatherall, Red Snapper and the Chemical Brothers in the mid-1990s. Her UK/US first solo album, '' Trailer Park'', received much critical acclaim in 1996. Orton developed a devoted audience with the release of the BRIT Award-winning album ''Central Reservation'' (1999) and the 2002 UK top 10 album, '' Daybreaker''. Her 2006 album, '' Comfort of Strangers'', was followed by a break during which Orton gave birth to her daughter and collaborated with the British guitarist Bert Jansch. Martin Glover (born 27 December 1960), better known by his stage name Youth, is a British musician and record producer, best known as a founding member and bassist of the rock band Killing Joke. He is also a member of The Fireman (band), the Fireman, along with Paul McCartney. Early career Martin Glover was born on 27 December 1960 in Slough, at that point part of Buckinghamshire, England. The Blow Monkeys are a British pop band formed in 1981. Their first single, "Live Today Love Tomorrow", was released in 1982. They subsequently enjoyed a successful career with several hit singles and albums throughout the 1980s before splitting up at the beginning of the 1990s. ''Trailer Park'' is the second studio album by British singer Beth Orton. Combining folk, electronica, and trip hop elements, it earned Orton two BRIT Award nominations. One single from the album was the opening track, " She Cries Your Name", which previously appeared in a different form on William Orbit's album ''Strange Cargo Hinterland''. All songs were co-written by Orton except for a cover version of Phil Spector's "I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine." The album featured contributions from folk musician Terry Callier (with whom she also recorded the B-side "Lean on Me"), Dr. Robert and Ben Harper. Terrence Orlando "Terry" Callier (May 24, 1945 – October 27, 2012) was an American soul music, soul, Folk music, folk and jazz guitarist and singer-songwriter. Life and career Callier was born in the North Side of Chicago, Illinois, and was raised in the Cabrini–Green housing area. He learned piano, was a childhood friend of Curtis Mayfield, Major Lance and Jerry Butler (singer), Jerry Butler, and began singing in doo-wop groups in his teens. In 1962, he took an audition at Chess Records, where he recorded his debut single, "Look at Me Now". At the same time as attending college, he then began performing in folk clubs and coffee houses in Chicago, becoming strongly influenced by the music of John Coltrane. Fred Neil (born Frederick Ralph Morlock Jr.; March 16, 1936 – July 7, 2001) was an American folk singer-songwriter active in the 1960s and early 1970s. He is mainly known through other people's recordings of his material – particularly " Everybody's Talkin", which became a hit for Harry Nilsson after it was used in the film ''Midnight Cowboy'' in 1969. Though highly regarded by contemporary folk singers, he was reluctant to tour and spent much of the last 30 years of his life assisting with the preservation of dolphins. It was also re-released in 1997, with a different set of B-sides. Background The earliest version of "She Cries Your Name" appeared on Orton's 1993 debut album ''Superpinkymandy''. Another early version of "She Cries Your Name" appeared on the 1995 William Orbit album '' Strange Cargo Hinterland''. The ''Strange Cargo Hinterland'' version removed Orton's verses from the ''Superpinkymandy'' version, but retains her chorus vocals and the original instrumentation.
