Besouro Mangangá
Manoel Henrique Pereira (c. 1895 in Santo Amaro, Bahia – c. 1924 in Santo Amaro, Bahia), known as Besouro Mangangá was a legendary capoeira fighter from Bahia who ran capoeira school in Santo Amaro at the beginning of the 20th century. Besouro was a dangerous ''faquista'', highly skilled in knife fight, and known to play with a straight razor using his foot. Besouro was murdered quite young in 1924 in the Maracangalha camp, in the Santa Casa de Misericórdia of Santo Amaro. Shortly after his death, Besouro became a mythical capoeira hero. Its fame reached the national level from the 1930s and, with the expansion of capoeira to other continents, it became international. Besouro was the teacher of capoeira mestre Cobrinha Verde. Santo Amaro, also known as Santo Amaro da Purificação (), is a municipality in the state of Bahia in Brazil. The population is 60,131 (2020 est.) in an area of . It is located in the metropolitan area of Salvador. Santo Amaro is located approximately from the city of Salvador. Berimbau
The berimbau (, borrowed from Kimbundu ''mbirimbau'') is a traditional Angolan musical bow that is commonly used in Brazil. It is also known as ''sekitulege'' among the Baganda and Busoga. It consists of a single-stringed bow attached to a gourd resonator and is played with a stick and a coin or stone to create different tones and rhythms. The berimbau was used in many parts of Africa and Brazil during the 19th century to accompany chants and storytelling. It is part of the candomblé tradition, later incorporated into the Afro-Brazilians, Afro-Brazilian art capoeira. The Assailant
''The Assailant'' (known as ''Besouro'' in Brazil) is a 2009 Brazilian action-drama film directed by João Daniel Tikhomiroff. The film is about Besouro Mangangá, a Brazilian Capoeirista from the early 1920s, to whom were attributed some heroic and legendary deeds. Huan-Chiu Ku, ''Kill Bill''s choreographer, is responsible for the film's fight scenes. Its filming lasted three months in Bahia.
