Bertha Puga Martínez
Bertha Puga Martínez (13 March 1909 - 9 August 2007) was the wife of the 20th President of Colombia, Alberto Lleras Camargo, and served as First Lady of Colombia from 1958 to 1962. She was also the daughter of Arturo Puga Osorio, Chairman of the Government Junta of Chile in 1932. She died on 9 August, 2007 in Bogota, D.C, Colombia. Personal life She moved to Colombia with her family when her father was named Ambassador of Chile to Colombia, and it was then that she met her future husband Alberto Lleras Camargo Alberto Lleras Camargo (3 July 1906 – 4 January 1990) was President of Colombia twice (1945-1946, 1958–1962), and the 1st Secretary General of the Organization of American States (1948–1954). First Lady of Colombia (First Lady of the Nation) is the title held by the hostess of the Casa de Nariño, generally the wife of the president of Colombia, coinciding with the president's tenure. The role of the first lady has never been codified or officially defined; according to the Constitutional Court of Colombia, the first lady holds the status of a private citizen before the public administration. However, this gives the first lady an additional special role, as, being the wife of the president, the first lady symbolically embodies, together with the president, the idea of national unity in accordance with article 188 of the Constitution of Colombia.
