Bernard, Count Of Cerdanya
Bernard William (; ) (c. 11th cent.-1117) was the Count of Berga (as Bernard II, 1094-1117) and the Count of Cerdanya (1109-1117). A son of William I of Cerdanya and Sancha of Barcelona, he inherited Berga from his father in 1094. On the death of his brother William-Jordan in 1109, he inherited Cerdanya. In 1111, after the death of Bernard III of Besalú, he opposed the integration of Besalú into the County of Barcelona as it was technically a feudatory of Cerdanya, as were Fenollet and Vallespir. William I Of Cerdanya
William I Raymond (; ) (1068–1095) was the count of Cerdanya and Berga from the year of his birth till that of his death, giving up Berga a year earlier to his son William-Jordan. He was the son of Raymond I of Cerdanya, who died a short while after his birth. He married Sancha, daughter of Ramon Berenguer I, Count of Barcelona, while they were both very young. William became the tutor of his nephew, the future Ramon Berenguer III. He took an interest in repopulating parts of his domain and promulgated the charter to the people of Villafranca. In 1082, he fought on the losing side in the Battle of Almenar. In 1094, he granted Berga to his sons and the elder, William, inherited Cerdanya when he died the next year. Vallespir (; ) is a historical Catalan comarca in Northern Catalonia, part of the French department of Pyrénées-Orientales. Geography The capital of the comarca is Ceret, and it borders the comarques of Conflent, Rosselló, Alt Empordà, Garrotxa and Ripollès. It lies in the Tech River valley, which crosses it from west to east. The County of Barcelona (, ) was a polity in northeastern Iberian Peninsula, originally located in the southern frontier region of the Carolingian Empire. In the 10th century, the Counts of Barcelona progressively achieved independence from Frankish rule, becoming hereditary rulers in constant warfare with the Islamic Caliphate of Córdoba and its successor states. The counts, through marriage, alliances and treaties, acquired or vassalized the other Catalan counties and extended their influence over Occitania. William-Jordan
William II Jordan (; ) (died 1109) was the count of Berga beginning in 1094, the count of Cerdanya beginning in 1095, and regent of the County of Tripoli beginning in 1105. He was the son of Count William I of Cerdanya and Sança, daughter of Count Ramon Berenguer I of Barcelona. William accompanied the army of Raymond IV of Toulouse, one of the leaders of the First Crusade, to the Holy Land. Raymond died in the east in 1105, leaving his young son Alfonso-Jordan as lord of Mons Peregrinus and Tortosa (of Syria) and nominal Count of Tripoli (which had not yet been captured by the crusaders). Since Alfonso-Jordan was still a child, Raymond's soldiers chose William-Jordan as regent. Meanwhile, in Toulouse, Raymond's elder son Bertrand was ruling in his absence.
