Bernalillo High School
Bernalillo High School is a public high school in Bernalillo, New Mexico, United States. The school is a part of the Bernalillo Public Schools district and is the only high school in the district. The mascot is the Spartan. Service area The service area of its school district, and therefore the high school itself, includes most of Bernalillo as well as Algodones, Cochiti, Cochiti Lake, La Madera, Peña Blanca, Placitas, Pueblo of Sandia Village, San Felipe Pueblo, Santo Domingo Pueblo, and most of Santa Ana Pueblo. Athletics Bernalillo High School competes in the District 2-AAAA. In 2023, the high school posthumously honored Benny Shendo Sr. who won the state mile with a time of 4.44 (for all schools, regardless of size) in 1953, becoming the first state champion for Bernalillo High, with an honorary diploma. Bernalillo () is a town in and the county seat of Sandoval County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 8,977 at the 2020 census. Bernalillo is part of the Albuquerque metropolitan area. History Wine Festival In the 1620s, the wine grape was introduced to Bernalillo by the Catholic priests and Spaniards. The wine industry grew rapidly since. Families were making their own wine and the vineyards were flourishing. The market dipped due to drought and floods. Slowly over time, the wine industry came back into Bernalillo and has sustained its health today, becoming a tradition and staple within the town itself. Placitas, Sandoval County, New Mexico
Placitas is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sandoval County, New Mexico, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 4,977. It is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1767, 21 families received a land grant from Spain. They founded the village of San Jose de las Huertas near present-day Placitas. Around the year 1768, nomadic Native Americans raided the village. In the 1830s, Placitas, which at the time was known as Las Placitas, was settled. On February 24, 1894, Las Placitas Presbyterian Church was founded.
