Isa Benzie
Isa Donald Benzie (4 December 1902 – 25 June 1988) was a British radio broadcaster. She played a key role in the launch of ''Today (BBC Radio 4), Today'' on BBC Radio 4, and served as its first senior producer. Early life and education Benzie was born in 1902 in Glasgow. She took the equivalent of a degree in German at Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford. She was not given a degree because she was a woman. Career Benzie became a secretary at the BBC in 1927, just two years after it first had de facto national coverage in Britain. During the World War I, her father, Lt. Colonel Robert Marr Benzie, served in the same army division as John Reith, 1st Baron Reith, John Reith who would become the managing director of the BBC, and had written to Reith asking for a position for his daughter. Percy Benzie Abery
Percy Benzie Abery (20 October 1876''1939 England and Wales Register'' – 20 January 1948)''England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966, 1973-1995'' was a prominent Welsh photographer of the early to mid-20th century. Abery was born in Sandgate, Kent. He came to prominence as a photographer in the Builth Wells area, where he settled in 1898 aged 21. From 1911 onwards his business was located in West End Studio, where a blue plaque commemorates the fact. Though located in Builth Wells, he covered large parts of Mid-Wales and was involved in press photography, publishing postcards as well as the stock in trade studio portraits and weddings. He was also appointed the official photographer by Birmingham Water Works to document the building of the Elan Valley Reservoirs. Isaac Benzie
Isaac Benzie was a department store located in Aberdeen, Scotland. History Isaac Benzie in 1894 opened a small drapery store at 185 George Street, Aberdeen, after serving an apprenticeship in a general merchant's shop in the village of Oyne. The business grew and moved to bigger premises in Gallowgate and further premises being opened selling additional goods across Aberdeen and a hosiery factory in Concert Court. In 1922 the business was incorporated and in 1924 the stores were all brought together under one roof at 143-167 George Street. However Isaac Benzie died in 1926, and his sons Isaac Junior and Athol then ran the business. In 1935 Isaac Junior died, leaving his brother to run the company, which he did until he retired in 1955. Benzie & Miller was a small department store chain based in Scotland and became part of House of Fraser in 1958. Early history Benzie & Miller was set up as a department store in 1920 by an amalgamation of business' in Fraserburgh, Scotland. In 1886 a 21-year-old William Benzie took over the management of a drapery business in Mid Street, Fraserburgh called ''The Colosseum''. Within a year he had set up shop in Buckie with his own store, but was asked to take over the business in Fraserburgh from Mitchell & Co, and sold the Buckie business shortly afterwards. In 1896 William built a new shop on the opposite side of the street as the business was expanding, and in 1898 a powerplant was installed to provide the store with electric light – a first for Fraserburgh.
