Benoît Schwarz-van Berkel
Benoît François Dominique Schwarz-van Berkel ( Schwarz; born 19 August 1991) is a Swiss curler. He currently throws fourth stones for skip Yannick Schwaller. He is a World Junior Champion, won a gold medal with the Swiss team at the 2013 European Curling Championships in Stavanger, and has also won a Grand Slam of Curling title at the 2018 Canadian Open. Schwarz-van Berkel has also earned multiple medals at both the European Curling Championship and World Men's Curling Championship, and was part of the bronze medal winning Swiss team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Career Juniors Schwarz-van Berkel began his international career representing Switzerland at the 2010 World Junior Curling Championships, as the fourth rock thrower on a team skipped by Peter de Cruz. At Schwarz-van Berkel's first international event, the team went 7–2 in the round robin, and would go on to win the championship, beating Scotland's Ally Fraser 7–6 in the final. Grand Slam Of Curling
The Grand Slam of Curling (formerly branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that were formerly part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least Canadian dollar, CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. World Junior Curling Championships
The World Junior Curling Championships are an annual curling bonspiel featuring the world's best curlers who are 21 years old or younger. The competitions for both men and women occur at the same venue. The men's tournament has occurred since 1975 and the women's since 1988. Since curling became an Olympic Games, Olympic sport in 1998 Winter Olympics, 1998, the World Junior Curling Championship of the year preceding the Olympic Games have been held at the site of the curling tournament for the upcoming Games. The event had its origins with the Ontario Junior Masters Curling Championship, which began in 1968 and, at first, mostly consisted of teams in the Greater Toronto Area. Eventually the event was renamed to the International Junior Masters Bonspiel and began attracting teams from other countries. The 2023 Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships took place in May and November 2023, to qualify European curling teams for the 2024 World Curling Championships. The A and B division competitions were held from November 18 to 25, with the A division being held at Curl Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland, and the B division being held at Dewars Centre in Perth, Scotland.
