Ben Axtman (born February 21, 1933), also known as Benjamin J. Axtman, is an American politician. He served as a Democratic member of the North Dakota Senate. Balta, North Dakota
Balta is a city in Pierce County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 66 at the 2020 census. Balta was founded in 1912, and is known for its duck hunting. Old Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Wrought-Iron Cross Site, in or near Balta, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History Originally, the town was named Egan, in honor of Egan Pierce, an official with the Soo Line railroad. It was renamed by the locals after the city Balta in the Russian Empire (current Ukraine), the original home of many immigrant settlers. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and is water. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (which warns that "there is no generally accepted definition of a geographic center"), the center of the continent of North America is six miles west of Balta, at a latitude of 48°10' and a longitude of 100°10'. North Dakota Senate
The North Dakota State Senate is the upper house of the North Dakota Legislative Assembly, smaller than the North Dakota House of Representatives. Per the state constitution, North Dakota is divided into between 40 and 54 legislative districts apportioned by population as determined by the decennial census. The 2000 redistricting plan provided for 47 districts, with one senator elected from each district. Senators serve four-year terms. Elections are staggered such that half the senate districts have elections every two years. In the 2022 North Dakota elections, a ballot measure passed with 63.4% of the vote creating term limits of eight years in the North Dakota Senate, which was put into effect starting January 2023. North Dakota Legislative Assembly
The North Dakota Legislative Assembly is the state legislature of the U.S. state of North Dakota. The Legislative Assembly consists of two chambers, the lower North Dakota House of Representatives, with 94 representatives, and the upper North Dakota Senate, with 47 senators. The state is divided into 47 constituent districts, with two representatives and one senator elected from each district.
