Belize At The 2023 Pan American Games
Belize is scheduled to compete at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile from October 20 to November 5, 2023. This will be Belize's 15th appearance at the Pan American Games, having competed at every edition of the Games since 1967 Pan American Games, 1967. The Belizean team consisted of six athletes competing in three sports. Sailor Trent Hardwick and track and field athlete Ashantie Carr were the country's flagbearers during the 2023 Pan American Games opening ceremony, opening ceremony. The pair were also the country's flagbearers during the 2023 Pan American Games closing ceremony, closing ceremony. Brandon Terrel Jones (born 19 July 1987) is a Belizean American athlete. He competed for Belize at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 200 m race; his time of 21.49 seconds in the heats was a seasonal best but did not qualify him for the semifinals. Jones was born in the U.S. state of Virginia to Belizean father Kent Smith and American mother Carmen Jones-Smith. He attended Hampton University, where he holds the school record in the indoor triple jump. He has competed internationally for Belize since 2012; he competes in sprinting, triple jump, and long jump, and has won medals at the Central American Championships in Athletics. Belize competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, which were held from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Sailing At The 2023 Pan American Games – ILCA 7
The ILCA 7 competition of the sailing events at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago was held from October 28 to November 4 at the Cofradia Nautica del Pacifico. Points were assigned based on the finishing position in each race (1 for first, 2 for second, etc.). The points were totaled from the top 9 results of the first 10 races, with lower totals being better. If a sailor was disqualified or did not complete the race, 23 points were assigned for that race (as there were 22 sailors in this competition). The top 5 sailors at that point competed in the final race, with placings counting double for final score. The sailor with the lowest total score won. Stefano Peschiera from Peru dominated the regatta to finish ahead of his opponents for the title.
