Belgaum (Kannada ISO 15919, ISO: ''Bēḷagāma'', ), officially known as Belagavi (also Belgaon), is a city in the Indian state of Karnataka located near its northern western border in the Western Ghats. It is the administrative headquarters of the eponymous Belagavi division and Belagavi district. The Government of Karnataka has proposed making Belgaum the second capital of Karnataka alongside Bangalore, hence a second state administrative building Suvarna Vidhana Soudha was inaugurated on 11 October 2012. Belagavi District
Belagavi district, formerly also known as Belgaum district, is a district in the state of Karnataka, India. The district is known as the sugar bowl of Karnataka with hectares being used for commercial production. It has overtaken Mandya district in sugarcane production over the last decade. The city of Belgaum (Belagavi) is the district headquarters in Belagavi district. Ratta Dynasty
Ratta was a minor dynasty who ruled over the Belagavi region of the Karnataka as a branch of Rashtrakutas. Savadatti (Saundatti), historically known as ''Sugandavarti'' was the capital of Ratta dynasty during 875-1250 CE period. Kamal Basadi
Kamal Basadi is a Jain temple located inside Belgaum Fort in city of Belgaum, Karnataka. History The Kamal Basadi was built by Birchiraja, also called Jaya Raya, an officer in the court of Kartavirya IV of Ratta dynasty in CE under the guidance of Jain monk Subhachandrabhattarakadeva. According to two stone tablets, now placed inside Royal Asiatic Society branch in Mumbai, an inscription dating back to 1205 CE the temple was constructed by the architect Kartaviryadeva and yuvrajakumara mallikarjunadeva. Architecture The Kamal Basadi derives its name from the lotus carvings extending from the dome of the centre roof. The lotus has 72 petals believed to represent 24 tirthankaras of past, present and future. The walls of the temple are engraved with intricate designs, borders, and sculptures. Jagadish Shivappa Shettar (born 17 December 1955) is an Indian politician, who served as the 15th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2012 to 2013. He is currently serving as Member of parliament representing Belgavi constituency.He has subsequently served as Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Suvarna Vidhana Soudha
The Suvarna Vidhana Soudha () is the legislature building of the State of Karnataka in Belagavi in the Belagavi district of Karnataka. It was inaugurated on 11 October 2012 by President Pranab Mukherjee. The building The Suvarna Vidhana Soudha has been so named to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Karnataka's formation day. The building is a four floored structure with a total built-up area of 60,398 sq.m. and consists of an Assembly hall that seats 300, a Council hall for 100 members, a 450-seat Central Hall, 38 ministerial chambers and 14 meeting halls.
