The TC Beirne Department Store is a heritage-listed former department store at 28 Duncan Street, Fortitude Valley, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Robin Dods and built in 1902. Further extensions were made through to 1938 to the designs of Dods and Hennessey & Hennessey. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 12 December 2003. History The TC Beirne Department Store was constructed for Thomas Charles Beirne in 1902 to the design of Robin Dods. The warehouse portion of the building was extended in 1906, and further extensions were made to the structure in 1910 and 1913, also to the design of Dods. By , architects Hennessey & Hennessey had undertaken extensive additions, and in 1938 an extra 30,000 square feet of floor space was added. The UQ Law School (also known as ''TC Beirne School of Law'') is the law school of the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Founded in 1936, UQ law school is the sixth oldest law school in Australia and the oldest operating in Queensland. The entering undergraduate class of 2023 was approximately 67 students. Byrnside-Beirne-Johnson House, also known as "Willowbrook," is a historic home located near Union, Monroe County, West Virginia. The house began as a pioneer log fort built by six families in 1770. Beirne Stadium is a stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island. It is the home stadium for the Bryant University college football and men's and women's soccer and lacrosse programs. Beirne Stadium also hosts USL Championship club Rhode Island FC during their inaugural 2024 season. The stadium holds 4,400 people and was built in 1999. Beirne is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in southern Clark County, Arkansas, United States. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 36. It is located southwest of Gurdon. History Beirne was first settled in 1880 by James Lewis Beirne of Grafton, Illinois on that he had purchased. Within a year there was a planing mill and a store, along with a railroad depot to serve the area. In 1890 the community was known alternately as Beirne or Beirne Station. An t-Athair Liam Ó Beirne () was a Roman Catholic priest, a writer of Modern literature in Irish and a language revival activist. Life Liam Ó Beirne was born at Milltown, County Galway in August 1871 in the townland of Carrownageehy to Thomas and Bridget (née Quinn) Beirne. The local Connaught Irish vernacular was always spoken at home. Beirne attended Ballindine National school in County Mayo. After completing primary school, Beirne attended St Jarlath's College in Tuam. He then went on to join the priesthood, registering at St Patrick's College, Maynooth on 3 September 1892. He was ordained a priest for the Tuam Archdiocese in Galway City on 19 November 1899. During the Gaelic revival, he wrote under pseudonyms ''An Beirneach'' and ''An Fear Mór Maoil'' ("The Big Bald Man"). His books ''An Troid agus an tUaigneas'' and ''Seo Suid'' won him much acclaim. Tadhg Gerard Beirne (; born 8 January 1992) is an Irish rugby union player who plays as a lock for United Rugby Championship club Munster, where he is the club captain, and the Ireland national team. Club career Leinster Beirne graduated through the Leinster academy and made his senior debut from the bench against the Cardiff Blues on 12 September 2015.
