Beijing Guoan 9–1 Shanghai Shenhua
A 1997 Chinese Jia-A League round 10 fixture was contested at the old Workers' Stadium (1959), Workers' Stadium in Beijing between hosts Beijing Guoan F.C., Beijing Guoan and the visiting Shanghai Shenhua F.C., Shanghai Shenhua on 20 July 1997. Beijing Guoan and Shanghai Shenhua were both established teams in the Chinese Jia-A League, who regularly occupied high league positions in the years before. The match was the first meeting between the two sides in the calendar year, with both teams going through their respective challenges. Beijing Guoan suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat to Dalian Shide F.C., Dalian Wanda only one week prior, and set a gargantuan task for Guoan manager Jin Zhiyang to reinstate a positive morale going forward. The 1997 Chinese Jia-A League (known as Marlboro Jia-A League for sponsorship reasons) was the fourth season of professional association football and the 36th top-tier overall league season held in China. Starting on March 16, 1997, and ending on November 29, 1997, it was performed by 12 teams and Dalian Wanda won the championship making it their third championship title. Fu Bin (; born May 6, 1969, in Beijing) is a Chinese football goalkeeping coach and a former international football player. Qi Hong (; born June 3, 1976, in Shanghai) is a former Chinese international footballer who played as an attacking midfielder or shadow striker throughout his career. At Shanghai Shenhua he won the league and Chinese FA Cup with them before controversially moving to then local neighbours Shanghai COSCO Huili. Xie Hui (; born February 14, 1975, in Shanghai) is a former professional Chinese football player and coach. As a player Xie Hui represented Shanghai Shenhua throughout the majority of his career, having several spells with them and winning a Chinese league title and Chinese FA Cup with the club.
