Begusarai Assembly constituency is an assembly constituency in Begusarai district in the Indian state of Bihar. In 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, Begusarai was one of the 36 seats to have VVPAT enabled electronic voting machines. Bihar Legislative Assembly
The Bihar Legislative Assembly, also known as the Bihar Vidhan Sabha, is the lower house of the Bihar Legislature where the first elections were held in 1952. The total strength of membership in the Assembly was 331, including one nominated member. Dr.Shri Krishna Singh became the first Leader of the House and the first Chief Minister, Dr. Anugrah Narayan Singh was elected as the first Deputy Leader of the Assembly and became state's first Deputy Chief Minister. It was reduced to 318 during the second General Elections. In 1977, the total number of elected members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly was further raised from 318 to 325. With the creation of a separate State of Jharkhand, by an Act of Parliament titled as the Bihar Reorganisation Act, the strength of the Bihar Legislative Assembly was reduced from 325 to 243 members. An election was held in 1969 to elect members to the Bihar Legislative Assembly, the lower house of the legislature of the Indian state of Bihar. After the elections, the Congress emerged as the largest party, and Harihar Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar. Three parties contested in a 'Triple Alliance'; the Loktantrik Congress Dal, the Praja Socialist Party and the Samyukta Socialist Party. Bhola Singh
Bhola Singh (3 January 1939 – 19 October 2018) was an Indian politician. He was a member of the Indian Parliament and represented Begusarai (Lok Sabha constituency) which he won on a ticket from the BJP. Before joining the BJP he had been part of almost every political party in Bihar including the Communist Party, the Indian National Congress, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal. Before getting elected to the Indian Parliament he was the Urban Development Minister of Bihar. He was the Deputy Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 2000 to 2005. He was a professor in History before getting elected from Begusarai in 1967 as an independent candidate. Starting his political career in the late 1960s, he has been elected as member of the state legislative assembly from the Begusarai assembly seat eight times since 1967.
