Bega, New South Wales
Bega () is a town in the south-east of New South Wales, Australia, in the Bega Valley Shire. It is the economic centre for the Bega Valley. Place name One claim is that place name ''Bega'' is derived from the local Aboriginal ( Thawa language) word meaning "big camping ground". Another claim is that it is a corruption of the word "" in the local Aboriginal language (one of the Yuin languages) meaning "beautiful". The local Aboriginal name for Bega before colonisation was '. History and description The Bega region was used by the Yuin-Monaro Aboriginal people for thousands of years before Europeans arrived in the area. The clan whose country occupied the Bega vicinity were called the ''Worerkerbrim mitte''. Bega lies at the foot of Mumbulla Mountain, named after a Yuin elder King Jack Mumbulla, whose traditional Aboriginal name is Biamanga. Mount Imlay National Park
Mount Imlay is a national park in New South Wales (Australia), 387 km south of Sydney, named after George Imlay, the Imlay brothers, who were early pioneers to the district. It is accessed from the Princes Highway, south of Eden, New South Wales. The mountain is called "Balawan" by Bidhawal, Bidwell and Yuin peoples, and it is very important for their culture and spiritual teachings. The vegetation is mostly eucalyptus forest. The Imlay Mallee and Boronia imlayensis, Imlay Boronia are rare plants growing near the mountain's summit. However, there is a rainforest remnant surviving in a fire-free gully. It consists mostly of Black Olive Berry trees. The park contains large populations of common wombat, wombats and superb lyrebirds. CBC Bank Building, Bega
CBC Bank Building is a heritage-listed former bank building and now residence at 21 Auckland Street, Bega, New South Wales, Bega, in the South Coast (New South Wales) region of New South Wales, Australia. It was built from 1865. The property is owned by the Bega Valley Shire Council. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The building was built by Nicholas Bouquet in 1865 for the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney. It is understand to have been the first bank in Bega, the first two-storey building, and the third building of substance erected in the town. It occupies a commanding position at the top of a bluff on what was once the main road entering the town from the north. The Register of the National Estate was a heritage register that listed natural and cultural heritage places in Australia that was closed in 2007. The Bega Group is an Australian diversified food and drinks company with manufacturing sites in New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and Victoria. Bermagui, New South Wales
Bermagui () is a town on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia, in the Bega Valley Shire. It lies on the shores of the southern end of Horseshoe Bay. The name is derived from the Dyirringanj word, ''permageua'', possibly meaning "canoe with paddles". History A wharf was built in Horseshoe Bay in 1888 for the coastal trade. The port was serviced by the Illawarra & South Coast Steam Navigation Company. A 1910 article, "Bermagui – In a Strange Sunset", published by Henry Lawson in '' The Bulletin'' describes a steamer journey from Bermagui to Sydney. Lawson was probably travelling with the Illawarra Steam Navigation Company. In 1880, the Government geologist Lamont Young and four others disappeared while on a boat trip from Bermagui.
