Beeston Hockey Club
Beeston Hockey Club is a field hockey club based in Beeston, England. The club was founded in 1907, and plays its home games at the Nottingham Hockey Centre in Nottingham. Beeston is nicknamed ''the Bees''. The men's 1st XI plays in the Men's England Hockey League and the ladies 1st XI in the Women's England Hockey League. The majority of the other teams compete in the Midlands League. The large club fields six men's sides, seven ladies sides and various junior sides. The men's team have been champions of England on three occasions (2010–11, 2012–13, 2013–14) History The men's 1st XI won its first major trophy in 2008, defeating Bowdon 4–3 in the Men's National Cup. The men's team won its first National League Premier Division title in 2010/11, and went on to win it again in 2012/13 and 2013/14. The men's 1st XI have also competed in the Euro Hockey League. Goalkeeper (field Hockey)
Field hockey (or simply referred to as hockey in some countries where ice hockey is not popular) is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with 11 players in total, made up of 10 field players and a goalkeeper. Teams must move a hockey ball around a field by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, although grass has become increasingly rare as a playing surface. Indoor hockey is usually played on a synthetic hard court or hardwood sports flooring, and beach version is played on sand. The stick has evolved significantly over the game's history in its composition and shape. James Albery (field Hockey)
James Peter Albery (born 2 October 1995) is an English field hockey player who plays as a defender or midfielder for Old Georgians and the England and Great Britain national teams. He competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Biography Albery attended Heath Mount and the The Leys School, Cambridge and in the Upper Sixth was Head Boy. He played hockey for Cambridge City and Beeston before joining Old Georgians in the Men's England Hockey League Premier Division for the 2015 season. Albery made his senior England debut on 2 March 2017 against South Africa, in Cape Town, South Africa. He won a bronze medal with England in the Men's tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Albery helped Old Georgians complete the league and cup double during the 2022–23 season. 2022–23 Women's England Hockey League Season
The 2022–23 Women's England Hockey League season (sponsored by Vitality) was the 2022–23 season of England's field hockey league structure and England Hockey Women's Championship Cup. The season started on 24 September 2022. Surbiton are the defending league champions and Beeston are the defending cup holders. The Premier League play offs returned. East Grinstead won their first ever title after beating Surbiton 3–2 in the play off final. 2019–20 Men's Hockey League Season
The 2019–20 Men's England Hockey League season was the 2019–20 season of England's field hockey league structure. The season started on 14 September 2019 and was due to end in March 2020, but finished on 12 September 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. The defending champions were Hampstead and Westminster. Old Georgians, winners of the Hockey League Conference East replaced the relegated Sevenoaks. On 17 March 2020, the play-offs were suspended due to COVID. The play-offs were officially cancelled on 28 April 2020 and Surbiton were crowned champions. Beeston Hockey Club won the delayed Championship Cup on 12 September 2020, defeating Bowdon and Fareham respectively. 2015–16 England Hockey League Season
The 2015–2016 English Hockey League season took place from September 2015 until April 2016. The regular season consisted of two periods September until December and then February until March. The end of season playoffs known as the League Finals Weekend was held on the 16 & 17 of April. Wimbledon won the Men's Premier League title despite finishing fourth in the regular season league standings. Surbiton won the Women's Premier League as well as finishing top of the regular season league standings. The Men's Cup was won by Beeston and the Women's Cup was won by Clifton.
