The Bedrock post office opened on November 8, 1883. The town's general store and post office were built on solid rock, hence the name. The general store originally served the ranching community of Paradox Valley and later also served uranium miners in the 20th century. The general store was built in 1882 and featured in the 1991 film ''Thelma & Louise''. Geography Bedrock is located in the southwest margin of Paradox Valley. The Dolores River enters the Paradox Valley approximately one quarter of a mile southeast of the community. State Highway 90 (SH 90) is a long state highway at the western edge of Colorado. SH 90's western terminus is a continuation as Utah State Route 46 (SR-46) at the Utah state border, and the eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 550 in Colorado, U.S. Route 550 (US 550) in Montrose, Colorado, Montrose. Naturita is a statutory town in Montrose County, Colorado, United States. The population was 485 at the 2020 census, down from 546 in 2010. The post office in Naturita was opened on October 21, 1881, under the name "Chipeta"; the name was changed to Naturita September 15, 1882, and has used that name since then. Naturita is a name derived from Spanish meaning "little nature". Geography The community is located in southwest Montrose County within the San Miguel River valley. Dolores River
The Dolores River is a tributary of the Colorado River, approximately long, in the U.S. states of Colorado and Utah. The river drains a rugged and arid region of the Colorado Plateau west of the San Juan Mountains. Its name derives from the Spanish ''El Rio de Nuestra Señora de Dolores'', River of Our Lady of Sorrows. The river was explored and possibly named by Juan Maria Antonio Rivera during a 1765 expedition from Santa Fe. Paradox Valley
Paradox Valley is a basin located in western Montrose County in the U.S. state of Colorado. The dry, sparsely populated valley is named after the apparently paradoxical course of the Dolores River—instead of flowing down the length of the valley, the river cuts across the middle and through the sheer walls of large mesas on either side. The valley is the site of a Bureau of Reclamation salinity-control project which has caused thousands of earthquakes, and is the proposed location of a new uranium mill which would be the first built in the United States in over 25 years. The Colorado Railroad Museum is a non-profit railway museum, railroad museum.
