Beaver Scouts (commonly known as ''Beavers'') are the youngest age group in Scouting Ireland Scouting Ireland () is one of the largest youth movements on the island of Ireland, a voluntary educational movement for young people with over 45,000 members, including over 11,000 adult volunteers . Structure A group of Beavers is called a Beaver Scout Colony. The colony is run by a team of Programme Scouters (often with a "Section Leader" as the head) and often Venture Scouts. Scouting Ireland () is one of the largest youth movements on the island of Ireland, a voluntary educational movement for young people with over 45,000 members, including over 11,000 adult volunteers . It was founded in 2004, following the amalgamation of two of the Scouting organisations on the island. It is the World Organization of the Scout Movement-recognised Scouting association in the Republic of Ireland. In Northern Ireland it operates alongside The Scout Association of the UK and the Baden-Powell Scout Association. Cub Scouts (Scouting Ireland)
Cub Scouts or Macaoimh () is the name given to youth members Scouting Ireland and previously Scouting Ireland (CSI), of the Cub Scout age group. The terms Macaoimh and Cub are often co-existent though Macaoimh represents a different tradition. Both boys and girls participate in the Cub Scout programme though some Scout Groups are boys only. Its membership is the largest of the four Scouting Ireland Sections. The Cub Scout programme is part of the worldwide Scouting movement and aims to develop the youth member using the SPICE program - Social, Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional and Spiritual. Personal Progression In Scouting Ireland
The ''ONE Programme'' personal progression system for youth members of Scouting Ireland has been designed and refactored since the merger of earlier organisations, using a number of key underlining principles. Activities and personal progression (badges) are designed to make use of the Scout method, maintain a consistent structure across the five youth programme sections, involve youth participation and personal experiences. One Programme for all The principle of 'ONE Programme for all' means that each age range section delivers the programme in a similar way. Small groups are present in all Sections. Documentation is designed to appeal to the age range of the Section but presents the same concepts to young people in appropriate visual presentations and language. Chief Scout Award (Scouting Ireland)
The Chief Scout Award is the highest youth programme award in each of the Programme Sections in Scouting Ireland. It is designed to tie-in with the Gaisce Award/Duke of Edinburgh's Award, and the Chief Scout Award for Scouts, Venture Scouts, and Rover Scouts are awarded jointly with the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards respectively. Requirements for the award are a number of Adventure Skills, Special Interest Badges, an Expedition, and camp with an inter-cultural aspect. The progress of the award is led by the participant, with the help of the Scouter. A similarly named award, The Chief Scout's Award was the highest award for Scouts in Scouting Ireland until the development of the ONE Programme. Venture Scouts (Scouting Ireland)
Venture Scouts in Scouting Ireland are aged between 15 and 17 years of age. The awards scheme of Venture Scouts is called ''Rogha'', an Irish word meaning ''Choice''. Although many groups use Gaisce, the President's Award, as part of their programme also. Each group has a Venture Scout Executive which, under the guidance of an adult Scouter, designs and implements activities. A National Venture Forum Committee (NVFC) represents Venture Scouts on national administrative bodies - in line with the association's ''Youth Participation Policy''. The NVFC meet to discuss matters of importance to Venture Scouts, and a nine-member committee is elected annually at the National Youth Forum which meets at Larch Hill. Scout Method
The Scout method is the informal educational system used in the Scout Movement with some variations among different Scout organizations. Scout training is character development to help Scouts become independent and helpful, and thereby become "healthy, happy, helpful citizens". The Scout method uses appealing activities in the outdoors with a simplified social structure to generate challenges from which Scouts learn. Through the training, Scouts are taught independence, leadership, the ambition to learn by themselves and a moral code with positive goals. The Scout method works by following the natural impulses of the Scout and unconsciously because the Scout is not aware of the education. Activities and games provide a fun way to develop skills and, when conducted outdoors, provide contact with nature and the environment.
