Beauregard Parish School Board
Beauregard Parish School Board is a school district headquartered in DeRidder, Louisiana, DeRidder in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, Beauregard Parish in southwestern Louisiana, United States. From 1933 to 1944, Gilbert Franklin Hennigan, then of DeRidder, was the school board president. In 1943, he was elected the president of the Louisiana School Board Association. He left the board to serve from 1944 to 1956 in the Louisiana State Senate. A strong advocate of public education, Hennigan worked to make McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Lake Charles a four-year college and to pass legislation creating the state teacher retirement system. He died at age 77 in 1960 in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, Calcasieu Parish. From 1969 to 1992, Dorothy Sue Hill, the Louisiana House of Representatives, state representative for Allen Parish, Louisiana, Allen, Beauregard, and Calcasieu parishes, taught home economics for Beauregard Parish schools. DeRidder is a city in, and the parish seat of, Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, United States. A small portion of the city extends into Vernon Parish, Louisiana, Vernon Parish. As of the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census DeRidder had a population of 10,578. It is the smaller principal city of the DeRidder-Fort Johnson South, LA CSA, DeRidder-Fort Johnson South CSA, a Combined Statistical Area that includes the Fort Johnson South, Louisiana, Fort Johnson South (Vernon Parish, Louisiana, Vernon Parish) and DeRidder (Beauregard Parish) micropolitan areas, which had a combined population of 87,988 at the 2010 census. History DeRidder was named for Ella de Ridder, the sister-in-law of a Dutch railroad financier, Jan de Goeijen (cf. De Queen, Arkansas).
