Beattie is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community located in Comanche County, Texas, Comanche County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 50 in 2000. The town was named for the pioneer who founded it, Charles F. Beatty. Geography Beattie is located on Farm to Market Road 588, off Texas State Highway 36, southwest of De Leon, Texas, De Leon and northwest of Comanche, Texas, Comanche in north-central Comanche County. Comanche County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in Central Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 13,594. The county seat is Comanche. The county was founded in 1856 and is named for the Comanche Native American tribe. History Among the first inhabitants of present-day Comanche County were the Comanche Indian tribe. In 1854, Jesse M. Mercer and others organized a colony near the future settlement of Newburg. in Comanche County on lands earlier granted by Mexico to Stephen F. Austin and Samuel May Williams. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. State Highway 36 (SH 36) runs from Freeport to Abilene. It was designated as the 36th Division Memorial Highway between Cameron and Sealy by the Texas Legislature in 1985. History SH 36 was originally proposed on November 21, 1917, as a route from Cisco to Waco. On December 20, 1917, this became part of SH 18. On November 20, 1917, an intercounty highway was designated from Goldthwaite to Temple. On January 24, 1918, the intercounty highway extended to Cameron.
