Area code 320 is the telephone numbering plan code covering most of central Minnesota, excluding the Twin Cities metro. It was the fourth Minnesota area code, and the first new one in the state in 42 years. It was created in 1996 by carving out of the western part of area code 612, which originally stretched border-to-border from Wisconsin through the Twin Cities to South Dakota. It had been obvious for some time that 612 would need to be split due to the Twin Cities' rapid growth. Isle is a city in Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 751 at the 2010 census. History A post office called Isle has been in operation since 1896. The city was named for the island near its harbor on Mille Lacs Lake. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of , of which is land and is water. Onamia ( ) is a city in Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 878 at the 2010 census. U.S. Highway 169 and Minnesota State Highway 27 are the main routes in the community. History Originally, the city of Onamia was organized from the merger of two communities, Village of Onamia (Ojibwe: ''Onamanii-zaaga'iganiing'') and the Village of Ericksonville (Ojibwe: ''Gibaakwa'igaansing''). Onamia is named after Lake Onamia, of which "Onamia" is derived from the Ojibwe word ''onaman'' meaning " red ochre", or locally as " vermilion". Ericksonville was incorporated in 1898. Minnesota State Highway 27 (MN 27) is a state highway in west-central and east-central Minnesota, which runs from its intersection with MN 28 in Browns Valley and continues east to its interchange with Interstate 35 (I-35) in Moose Lake. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
