Bavarian War (1420–1422)
The Bavarian War from 1420 to 1422, also known as the Great War of the Lords, was a conflict between Louis VII the Bearded of Bayern-Ingolstadt and Henry XVI of Bavaria-Landshut. The conflict overshadowed Louis VII's reign, which lasted more than thirty years. Background and history Henry XVI already had a dispute with Louis VII's father Stephen III. On 17 April 1414, Henry and other enemies of Louis VII founded the Parakeet Society. On 8 July 1415, the society was changed into the League of Constance, an alliance for mutual defense against Louis VII. In 1417 in Constance, Louis insulted Henry by calling him "the son of a cook". When Louis then accused Henry of having shed human blood, Henry and fifteen of his followers physically attacked Louis and injured him severely. After this attack, Louis described Henry as a ''pluethunt'' ("blood hound"), which did little to defuse the conflict. Bavarian War (1459–1463)
The Bavarian War from 1459 to 1463, also known as the Princes' War, was a result of the expansionist ambitions of the two warring Principalities, pitting Margrave, later Elector, Albert Achilles from the House of Hohenzollern, which by this time had already annexed the principalities of Brandenburg-Kulmbach and Brandenburg-Ansbach, against Duke Louis "the Rich" of Bavaria-Landshut from the House of Wittelsbach. Background Albert Achilles tried to expand the jurisdiction of his courts, as part of his attempt to extend his influence over neighbouring areas. For this purpose, he tried to raise his Burgraviate Court at Nuremberg to an Imperial Court. This would have given him jurisdiction over the neighbouring principalities and the possibility to override decisions of subordinate courts. Landshut War Of Succession
The War of the Succession of Landshut (''Landshuter Erbfolgekrieg'' in German) resulted from a dispute between the Duchies of Bavaria-Munich (''Bayern-München'' in German) and Bavaria-Landshut (''Bayern-Landshut''). Background George, Duke of Bavaria-Landshut, nicknamed 'the Rich', and his wife Hedwig (Jadwiga) of Poland had no surviving son, so George named his daughter Elisabeth as his heir in his testament of 19 September 1496, along with her fiancé Ruprecht of the Palatinate and any future sons the couple would produce. Their marriage was concluded on 10 February 1499. Elisabeth was Ruprecht's cousin, Ruprecht's mother Margarete of Bavaria-Landshut was George's sister. Nonethelss, this arrangement stood in contradiction to the Treaty of Pavia (1329), the dynastic law of succession of the House of Wittelsbach.
